Perfect. Thanks for the info. I think the only pils I've had from Bamberg was Mahrs. I really have no idea if this Vermont beer successfully approximates a Franconian Pilsner. It's funny cause I was expecting you to respond by saying that there were no unifying characteristics across the spectrum of Franconian Pilsner.
Yeah. I've had other (better) beers in that category before. This highlights something that I've always found a bit funny - that one can "tick" a style by having a beer that in no way is an example of other beers in that style.

    Cheers

I tend to view that as one of the risks associated with crowd sourcing information and having any sort of categorization scheme at all. Anyone at any level of knowledge and/or experience can add a beer to a particular style category on this site. Also, simplifying a diverse world by creating categories will guarantee that there will be some fuzzy boundaries where somethings don't quite fit. But on the other hand without those two things we'd be faced with a much smaller information resource and lots of "bloomin', buzzin' confusion.

Yeah, but I'm specifically thinking of its intersection with ticking something off a list. It reminds me of the people that claim that they can speak German because they can say Bier.

Yep, that's what I was thinking of as well.

In German you at least need, "Ein bier, bitte."

(It also helps to know how to ask where the toilets are.)
