If the bottle count is similar it shouldn't. My guess is there might be more people for this but not by so much that it will sell out early. I am coming from out of town and plan on doing the other stuff I have planned first and then showing up around 4pm.

Does anyone think there's really an ABC law that prohibits unopened bottles from other breweries on the property? I'm no expert but I feel like you can legally take an upopened bottle just about anywhere but an airplane.

it's probably up to interpretation per an individual ABC agent (it's not uncommon for ABC Agent1 to say X and ABC Agent2 to say Y...), but with the ABC office all of 2 blocks away, they don't want to risk anything.

Maybe that is a brewery rule and with the recent law change allow you to bring your own bottles into restaurant it also impacts breweries somehow. I do know shares / opening non brewery bottles are strictly prohibited. A little wording error. Obviously trades happen at release and most people do it at their vehicles and not in the open.

Not a new rule change. Hardywood can't legally allow people to bring other breweries (or even their previously release beers, I believe) beers on their property, ABC law. That and the ABC headquarters is right down the street. Just trade off the property, and you will be fine. It's been like this for quite awhile, actually.

Agree with @ncaudle, @TomCat11 and @Shilt: Virginia's ABC is an agency that no smart brewery wants to get even remotely close to sideways with. And honestly, you don't want to mess around with them as an individual either since their agents have arrest power. If you're just bringing bottles to trade, trade at your car. If you're bringing them to drink in line ... well, don't.

But then what else are the people that inevitably show up at 7am going to do until 1pm?

Never heard of this...I just did an IP trade at Answer yesterday and brought the bottles inside since it was pouring outside. So that's something ABC agents could take issue with?

Drink at their cars away from the property. Again, this has also been done for many of the past releases. People are generally smart about it, even though again, it's illegal.

I'm looking to skip the lines and pick up my KCM allotment late Saturday. Would I be able to stop by earlier in the day to grab some BGBS, RGBS, and CM without having to wait in line for the KCM? (If of course they are still available, I figure I would have a better chance getting them in the morning vs later in the day on Saturday.)

Answer is a bit different in that it's also a restaurant. VA ABC recently allowed persons to bring in outside beer into restaurants/bars (who can then charge a corking fee, if they desire...). Hardywood is a brewery only and does not fall into that category

For Trickery release they were selling other bottles in the orginial building to left if you are looking at both buildings. There should only be a short line of people getting draft pours. I purchased a bottle of whiskey barrel pumpkin there. The line for the release goes into the building to the right.

This will be my first time making it over to Hardywood and the city of Richmond. Can anyone recommend a few places to eat? Preferably within a reasonable driving distance of the brewery.

^^^This @ShabamJenkins. 4 miles from HW and you drive right by Veil on the way there.

Not yet. Their update yesterday stated Fri afternoon so I'm guessing sometimes after 2pm.
