Hell, just give me myself and a beer or two.

I like beer fests, but if it's the sort where you're getting small (3-5 oz.) pours, I typically am trying new beers, so I'm okay with it. I agree that they're not a good way to actually appreciate the beer, but if you're just dying for a taste, they fit the bill.

If brewers were smart, they would have a beer fest variant of their whales that was brewed with the intent of being consumed much cooler and in a 2-3oz pour so it was as developed as it would get coming out of the keg. The subtle, milder flavors get covered up by the cold, so if they are intended for a beer fest where the beer isn't blooming they have to make those more intense to balance out the beer or reduce the bold flavors that overload he palate when cold, e.g. Prop 2016 pepper....

Beer Fests for me aren't about appreciation of subtle characteristics etc..I'll be the first to admit that most beer fests I've gone to, I just wanted to hang out with some people and drink for 4 hours on a Saturday afternoon, and get a bit drunk given that most fests I've been to have nothing I can't get off a shelf any day of the week. Still makes for a fun time, which is the point.

Is there any reason they can't try to regulate the serving temp. at these types of beer events? I'll admit I know very little about proper beer storage, etc., but would it kill them to let the kegs used for these events sit out at room temperature for several hours (or the day) leading up to the event?

Did anyone happen to attend their Movember event last week? I was curious to know some of the auction prices on the vintage bottles they had.

I didn't go but had a bottle share that night with a guy that did. Don't remember all the prices but all were well above secondary. "It's for charity" was a term that was thrown out a lot that night.

That's kind of what I figured. Well above my price point, I'm sure.

Anywhere near Streeterville with BC on tap? Have a few hours to kill. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe check the nearby Whole Foods? I know the Depaul WF still had regular BCS on tap a couple days ago.

Marianos on Chicago and Damen has about 4 cases left behind the counter. 2 per customer. $10 each

I mean, if they were actually auctioning them off, that's fair. I could see OG Rare going for that in a charity auction.

Now, as a beer drinker? I'd be salty as well. I want those whales at msrp, baby!

FWIW, I was a volunteer at the event, and prop was was first beer, straight out of the keg, into a solo cup (granted it wasn't much more than 4 ounces or so), and sipped it for a while.

    It was still terrible.

I'm all for not basing opinions on Fobab thoughmainly because it seems like it's different beer.
They are served on ice. Just like a house party. Bucket. Keg. Ice.

It's then poured into a pitcher that it's served from, at which point, it does warm a bit.

Still though, better cold than warm.

Binnys on Grand just got an insane amount of good loot. Primarily Surly Barrel Aged Pentagram.

Isn't all Pentagram barrel aged? Great beer, but it sits on shelves for a few months. What else did they get?

Edit: saw that they did release a rye whiskey barrel version which I guess is what is out....
