In other news, I think Oops is very good but Close Talker is the winner for sure. I'm a sucker for IPAs with Centennial.

Not sure why anyone is complaining.

Got there at 5:20, after work. No line whatsoever.

Got a pour of BBA rebellion. Filled two growlers with sonder. Bought 20 mango oops and 4 close talkers.

In the car at 5:40. What do you people want??

I think the most insulting thing propagated by certain people that missed out on cans is the notion that Sand City wasn't looking out for "the working people" by doing a Thursday release.

Believe it or not: there are a ton of people that don't work the "normal" 9-5, Monday-Friday schedule. People that work in fields such as healthcare, law enforcement, fire safety, etc. are not exempt from enjoying craft beer and often miss these types of releases because they're busy working when everyone else is trying to relax.

You missed out on cans today because it didn't fit into your schedule? That's unfortunate for you, but don't expect me to sympathize with your plight.

So true. I have a fairly "normal" work schedule now but my "weekend" was tues-wed for nearly 10 years before I had enough seniority to get traditional hours and days off. So yeah, we don't all work in an office.

Im just lucky that I work in the field most days and am done by 3. I was only 15 mins away fom Northport so it was a no brainer.

If I wasnt in the area theres no chance in hell I would have drove from Long Beach. And If I didnt go theres no chance I would have complained like some people that it wasnt on a weekend. Theres even a smaller chance I would have went there on a weekend.

I love beer but I only go to releases if its convenient, and I dont complain if I dont get anything. I just think constructive discussion on how to make releases better so more people can get beer is important. Too many people get pissed off when people try to have an active discussion. It almost always ends up with "well youre just pissed off because you didnt get the beer."

Bought a case of each and have never mailed a package of beer in my life; kept a mixed case and gave the other mixed case to friends. We rotate going to releases and usually max out, to share amongst the group.

If you think it's more noble to personally run around the outer boroughs and Long Island to grab a 4-pack of each can that's released, good for you... I don't have the time, patience, or desire to put up with that nonsense anymore.

For me, it goes in waves... lately, I've been the one putting in the most work, but when my one friend brings me back a case of Trillium cans next month, it'll be well worth it.

There's so much great freaking beer going around the local area, I really don't understand why all the griping goes on in all these threads. Both ways.

We're all adults here, I frankly don't judge anybody because who am I to do that?

I don't really think you try to have constructive discussion about beer releases, it seems to me that you like to whine about the beer scene and pat yourself on the back for doing the "right" thing at all times. It isn't constructive when you constantly put down others for doing things differently than you.

Release after release we read "Someone went and waited in a line? gasp...they must insane, it is just beer. I would never get there early, everyone should be like me...it would make the beer scene so much better."

I find it ironic that you just complained about all the people who got there before opening, whilst patting yourself on the back for making a 10 min late fashionable entrance. I guess you expected the place to be empty and that you were the only one with enough interest in new sand city cans to make a minor detour...cause anyone who is passionate enough to actually change their plans so they can get some cans is simply insane and part of the problem with beer, right? But you aren't part of that problem, it just so happened that you were in the area so everything is justified for you being there in the middle of the day, but all those other people before and after you buying beer, they must be crazy? And can you believe the amount of beer those people bought? They should all buy and drink what you do.

Not that it should matter or be anyone else's business how much beer someone buys, but I'm w the others in this thread who have friends. Some of those friends I trade beer with, some of them I drink beer with, but all of us always try to look out for each other when we can and sometimes I go to the release and get as much as I can for all my friends who can't be there and other times they go and share with me. I may walk out of there with cases of beer, but in the end may only end up keeping 4 or less for myself.

You seem to live in some fantasy land where you can't understand all these people who are passionate about beer. Face the facts, beer is big business these days and a LOT of people are into it. I mean after all, we are posting this on a beer message board. Maybe you would never call in a favor from a friend or family member for some beer, but that's you. Not sure why you have judge those who do over and over again. We get it, you know how to fix the giant problem that is the beer scene...so get out there and take some action!!! Go and talk to these breweries and help them...for the sake of the children, won't somebody PLEASE think of the children?

When did I ever complain? I just made a comment about there being a line when I didnt expect there to be. Oh well! I also made a comment about hoarders.

And youre right..I thnk people who wait in 7 hour lines for beer are fucking nuts.

funny how things change over time. I remember when the problem with the beer scene was posting updates on these message boards which would ultimately lead to the word spreading quicker about things.

captain lawrence used to randomly put out a ticket booth at some point in the night/hrs before a release and then everyone online would get tickets and then come back for release time. there was one release where a few people thought it would be funny to say that the tickets were out shortly after close the night before causing mass hysteria and getting people all over the NE jumping on the road in the middle of the night to get there.

I think people who are on BA all day are fucking nuts. To each his own, I suppose. At one point I used be that guy on BA all day, maybe one day you will turn into the guy who understands a line? If I can change, and you can change....we ALL can change!!!

I've also said many times before that if I dont get beer then oh well. Its beer and im sure as hell not gonna get stressed out over it. If theres a line, I usually dont go. Does that mean im entitled or am home crying? Fuck no. I just have better things to do than wait in a line. I have never ever once complained if a beer sold out before I got there. I just thought a line, on Thursday, in Northport, was very unexpected and think that in order to cut down on the potential lines to come SC could reduce the limits. This has been discussed ad naseum.

I challenge you to find a post where I complained about beer selling out. You wont find one.

And I dont complain about people waiting on line. I just THINK (as in opinion) that people who wait several hours for beer are crazy. But that is their perogative. If they want to wait in line, they can do what they want. But thats not going to stop me from having an opinion.

I agree 100% that Sand City and also Other Half Brewing should reduce their per person limits. If 2 beers are being released at the same time, 3 4 packs(12 cans)per beer, per person is a very fair and equitable limit to have. No reason to have a 1 case limit per beer on a limited release. Just encourages hoarding and limits the amount of people who can actually buy the beer.

I like what Sand City is doing with the mid week releases. This is the first mid week release from them that actually had a line.

I also agree that waiting in line for 7 hours for beer is insane but there seem to be plenty of people who disagree with me on this issue.

Having followed the monthly OH thread pretty much since it began and more recently the SC thread (since SC "blew up") - albeit mainly for entertainment value  - I'd LOVE to try me some of these raved-about "local" beers. But I work a 12pm-9pm shift in Manhattan Mon-Fri, so that effectively rules out going to can releases at either place. Not that I'd ever want to stand on a line for beer anyway. I would drive the 25-30 minutes up to Northport if by some miracle any cans lasted until the weekend, but sadly that seems unlikely going forward based on posts above. I almost never go to bars anymore, and prefer not to drink a lot of the same beer in a short period of time, so growlers aren't a viable option either. Trading just isn't worth the hassle and expense. So, I'll just patiently wait for the planets to align and hope that expansion and broader distribution (of cans) for both become a reality. In the meantime I'll just continue to enjoy the plethora of "shelf" beers out there - including the Barrier and Singlecut brews I occasionally come across. Now please, carry on...your passion and advocacy almost never fail to entertain.

how about OH and SC are 2 completely different situations
OH thrives with and invites the lines and hype
SC may just be looking to cover their locals 1st, which is more important thing to them
    makes sense to me anyway
