Correct, I should have been more specific. This is the very limited Rye barrel aged Pentagram.

They received quite a bit today. I also picked up a Half Acre Deep Space, Hipster Brunch Stout and Java Cask but they got a lot more than that.

Went to Paddy Long's for their Bourbon County event tonight, and it was about as packed as last year. However, without having 2 extra variants (no Prop on tap and no Rye variant), Coffee was gone within a half hour and regular gone in an hour. They lasted much longer last year. Still enjoyed myself, and didn't want to drink too much, so it worked out.

I also went to Local Option earlier in the day to try the Lagunitas High West-ified on tap as a comparison point to BCBCS. I enjoy High West-ified and think it's a great value, but it's nowhere near BCBCS.

High West sits up their with Big Bad Baptist as the best value ba imperial coffee stouts. Cheers to Lagunitas for not charging $30 a six pack....

Still a good number of Reg and Barleywine at the Fresh Market on Western between Armitage and Fullerton. Reg is 19.99 and Barleywine has been dropped from 29.99 to 19.99.

I opened up a 2016 coffee and like it a lot! I still think the regular is my favorite so far out of BW and Coffee

ouch, that is way pricey ! It's a shame that some places just take advantage of what is popular. I know, what the market will bear but they should be ashamed for taking advantage of folks.

I don't think they're taking advantage of anyone. They set a price, and people can buy it or not buy it.

Always gotta love the pro-gouger "free-market" advocates who are into craft beer

That is true of anything. It does not make it right.

I'm normally against this sort of shit (non-MSRP pricing), but given what a bitch it is to get some of this stuff, I'm starting to have a more nuanced approach to the pricing discussion.

Geez. Is $20 really a lot of money?

I bet I make less than the average person on here, but I'm certainly less cheap.

How is that pricey? GI itself has several beers that are more expensive than this this (granted they are larger format). I wouldn't call it "a shame." It's being a responsible small business owner. The beer will sell at that price and before almost everything else on their shelves. It's not like it's marked $10 and ringing up for more. It's clearly with a price and the consumer can decide to purchase or not.

I opened a Coffee 16 yesterday as well, and agree with your ranking (except for me you can throw Prop into that group, as my least favorite). I really enjoyed the robust coffee and chocolate notes on the nose and palate, but if there is a negative it did feel a bit thinner than usual for BCBCS. I had a '13 coffee a week or so ago and that feel was more 'chewy'.

No one likes price gouging, but this isn't taking advantage of anyone. If you're considering a 16.9 oz bottle of beer for $20, you likely know what you're getting yourself into. No one stumbled into a liquor store to buy a 6-pack of Miller Lite and walked out thinking ,"what have I done?! I can't believe I purchased this mysterious bottle of beer for $20!"

If I was completely shut out on BCS and had a difficult time finding it, and just wanted 1 to try, I would absolutely pay $20 for it. Not to mention, this pricing isn't too far off what you'd end up spending in a bar to drink it on tap.

The taking advantage comes into play when the stuff is infected and GI will only cover the MSRP on refunds and then the consumer is screwed because the retailer is under no obligation to refund the rest from his exorbitant profit .

Selling anything twice+ MSRP or requiring you to buy other products to have the privilege of buying what you want is not cool. If that's your jam, then pay up, but please don't shop at those places for anything else. I was dumb enough last year to pay $30 for coffee and I bought 3 of them. Luckily I kept my receipt and GI gave me $90 for them, so I was only out the tax and my time. Never again will I do that. Heck, my goal this year was not to pay over $9.99 for regular. I ended up getting a case plus a few (could have had much more) at that price this year. I also had a chance to buy Prop at $50 from a regular place that I do business with and in fact I had something else in my hand that I was going to purchase. I politely told the business owner that he did a great job on playing how to lose a customer in 15 seconds and then left my other purchase on the counter and walked out. Everything else in that store is fairly priced, so I wasn't having any of it. Standard business practice is one thing, being an opportunist is something totally different. Let those places make their money on Budweiser, Coors Light, and Modelo, and then let them choke on all their craft beer. There are too many places out there to get BCBS at fair prices as long as you're willing to put in the work. I think we are already seeing that anyway. There seems to be plenty of Rare sitting around at $125+.

Free markets and capitalism have allowed us all to have plenty of nice things, so why should this be so bad? Also, it's clear that the product should be priced more than $10 based on demand, so do you conversely feel bad about gouging Goose out of a few dollars with each bottle you buy at $10? There is a product on the shelf, it has a price, and the consumer has their own free will to decide whether or not to buy it. Seems like a pretty sweet system to me, which has pretty much worked great for us over a long period of time.

We disagree here. Right has a different meaning to lots of people, though.

Back to the beer, though. I'm a bit torn as to whether I prefer Regular or Coffee this year. I think I need to have them side by side before making a determination. Both are fantastic, though.
