Had some friends over last night for a mini "6 Days of Christmas" tasting. Some thoughts heading into the 12 Days sale...

3 French Hens - I never had this beer fresh but recently acquired a couple in a sale. It is damn good, and if available I plan to buy more. I do not like sours, and this has a bit of funk (possibly more from natural barrel aging than yeast) nonetheless I still loved it. Super mellow and very flavorful.

4 Calling Birds - I had this on tap when fresh and later acquired this bottle. Alcohol-wise it's mellowed a lot according to my notes. However, it still has a ridiculous amount of spicing - not unpleasant, but very forward and probably not for everyone.

5 Golden Rings - I loved this beer when it was fresh and it's still delicious today. Really mellow and tons of juicy fruit. Spicing is more forward than I recall, but not too bad (just a fraction of 4 Calling Birds).

    No 6 Geese this time.

7 Swans-a-Swimming - I had a bottle last year that turned out to have some light infection. I hated it, but my wife who likes sours loved it. This bottle was not infected and was very decent. It's just a basic quad, so while tasty I don't know that it brings much to the table that you can't get from other quads, and I'm not sure that it's changed much with age, but it's a good beer.

8 Maids-a-Milking - Didn't seem to have changed much since last year.

9 Ladies Dancing - I don't care for coffee in beer, so this one is disappointing for me - the coffee is the most forward flavor in my opinion. I'll say though, this was my second bottle this year, and I was surprised when a couple of my friends asked if it had peppers in it! I hadn't thought about it before, but once they said it I did kind of get a bit of pepper heat on the finish. Obviously there aren't actually peppers in it, so I wonder if it was a light alcohol heat, or acidity from the coffee, or a spicing they don't mention on the bottle... Anyway, just something to consider.

Real question: after 12 Drummers, if they did an eight beer series for the eight nights of Hanukkah with a menorah to display the bottles on (and candles to place in the empty bottle necks), would that we awesome or insensitive?

    Hi,
Opened a bottle last night that was infected. I have two bottles picked up at the same time, so their etched info may be very similar. I'll be emailing the above email today.
    Thanks.

If you zoom into the Twitter picture it looks like 2 Turtle Doves and Chronology 18.

$40 and change with RS discount cheaper for HS, but yes. Expensive. That's why they don't sell out in 10 seconds.

Are you in RS/HS? Maybe they pulled it back from PS?

I still see it in my allocations.
