What beer are you drinking now? #1515

Good evening, all! Following up a relatively dry on-call weekend with three straight days of work, so I feel like I've been missing out on the action lately. I decided to ease back into it with the remainder of this bomber. I drank the first pour out of a pretty but wholly inadequate holiday-themed goblet. I recapped the bottle so that I could enjoy the rest with #ProperGlassware. Amazingly, very little carb loss after two days, and this Spiegelau glass complements the beer perfectly. '14 Ten Fidy.
I have to say this is the way to enjoy this classic for me. I find fresh or one-year to be big one-note bitter cocoa harshness. Two years puts a more of an accent on some bitter chocolate and leathery, licorice-y char ........ it's still unforgiving (read, no adjunct sweetness for anyone not following this ode to simple ingredients .... your imperial stout need not taste like hot chocolate mocha latte, really it doesn't).
Began with some Celebration(s), now this while my chicken bakes, and I'll be well-plumped when single digits arrive tomorrow night in these parts.

Bottled January 2014, it definitely peaks around 1 1/2-2 years. Still very good and I have a few more to see how it holds up in the future.

 

If you're looking for a serious buzz you're probably better off pounding 4 budweisers than drinking this guy. But, not the worst thing I've ever had for a Tuesday night sipper!
