If I had to guess, I would say this is going to be a DIPA. They had Sosus for sale at MD Day last year, and King Sue for sale this year.

That said, this is a completely different event than MD Day, so I wouldn't take that as gospel. They have never done a release like this and Clark isn't know for following the same play book each time.

Yeah I would guess the additional four bottles will be their normal distro bombers, but limited to 4 so they have enough for people coming all day. Don't expect to see Chainsmoker or MD bottles for sale

Maybe wishful thinking but they are getting $200 for 3 bottles, hopefully they are feeling a bit more generous on the other 4.

I thought I remember Mike or Clark at one point tweeting they always try to make it worth the trip. Here's to hoping!

So assassin and KBBS aren't "worth" the trip enough?

There is a better chance of him cracking a few bottles to share at 4:30 that day but who knows.

Yes. More than likely I'll leave around 3am Friday morning. Since the pick up window is small I don't want to take any risk. I'd prefer to get to Decorah around 8am, get breakfast and then pick up my allotment. I've got a lot going on but I'll have that single day off. I won't be able to spend the night or really participate in bottle shares because I'll have to drive back the same day.

It was nice to see TG recognize the amount of effort and dollars people put into the chase. In my perspective, yes it is worth it as I'm going regardless and happy to get the chance to buy

I'm coming into town with a friend or two from Atlanta on Thursday and flying back Saturday evening.

Does anyone have any additional brewery suggestions outside of nmoe's?

My suggestion for people last time was to try out a few breweries during the day (Surly/Indeed/Dangerous Man/Fair State), then try Republic/Town Hall or Butcher & the Boar in the evening.
Also, anyone who's been for a major release before, can we expect to see Assassin, KBBS, or other special beers on tap at the brewery when they open at 4:30? Just trying to see if we'll be sticking around after my 12:30-1:45 time slot.

Pulpit Rock is worth checking out and right by Toppling Goliath in Decorah. Also Forager in Rochester has been putting out some solid beers and worth a stop.

If you didn't win you can prob get pours of these but zero chance you will be able to buy a bottle of either from brewery.

Can you pick up the bottles any time during the designated time slot or do you have to be there right at the start?

Likely wont have the time. Got work abutting late that Thursday and a wedding in Oklahoma that Saturday. Going to have to settle for drinking it from the bottle!

Been lurking for a while here and decided to jump in on this thread as I was lucky to get a ticket for this release.

I'll be in town on Thursday and would love to participate in any bottle shares happening that night. I really, really hope Assassin goes on tap Thurs. night but won't get my hopes up.

I grew up in Decorah and have been there quite a few times for TGB and non-TGB related events alike. It's an awesome little town and I hope people get to appreciate it. A few of my tips:
    • Pulpit Rock Brewing is certainly worth a visit, they make some nice beers. Their brewery is about 1/2 a block from TGB so there isn't much excuse not to check them out if you're staying.
    • Rubiyat (restaurant downtown on Water St.) usually has about 15-20 different beers on tap, and in my experience they usually offer TGB beers on tap that aren't on tap at the brewery. They have also been known to sell TGB bombers that are not available at the taproom. Either way, Rubiyat will almost certainly have Assassin on tap at some point over the weekend. Their food is also great.
    • The Courtyard and Cellar (also on water street) has a really nice taproom with some semi-rare midwest beers on tap on constant rotation. They also sell a variety of different bottles for off-sale. Lots of Prairie Artisan, Against the Grain, etc. so if you're not from the midwest you might find some things you like.
    • Mabes Pizza - they will be getting crushed that weekend. A must have if you want to make sure your stomach is coated.
I'll finish with a quick story - my buddy and I were travelling to Chicago last spring on our way to Dark Lord Day. We decided to stop in to TGB on our way down, expecting to have a pint of sue and watch the NFL draft. It was really low key that day, not very busy. We looked up to notice that Clark was behind the bar pouring something for himself and a couple locals at the bar - black and rich, and certainly not on the taproom menu. I casually asked what it was and Clark hesitates for a second before telling me - KBBS.

I tried hard not to completely geek out but he could still tell I knew what they were drinking. Clark asks me "Would you like to try it?" and I said "Absolutely, but could my buddy also have a taste?" and without hesitation he offers us his own glass out of his hand. No pompous attitude, no snarky comments, just a genuine gesture. If you haven't tried this beer yet you are really in for a treat.

Not an attempt to brag at all - I just wanted to share the story as Clark and TGB get quite a bit of crap for their approach. They are very down to earth people and while I agree $200 is a steep ask, I don't personally hold it against them. Part of what you're paying for is the experience. Looking forward to the release and sharing some beers!

No doubt they will release bottles at the taproom and some for distribution as well just as in 2014.

Highly doubt distro this year. Assassin was mostly all distro in 2014.
