It's a shame few people buy the Kolsch. I fear that one day Schlafly will quit making it, as extreme sells and Schlafly will inevitably try to grow. Their recent stout variety pack was all flavored stouts, whereas their variety packs used to have the traditional "boring" beers like Oatmeal stout (I love theirs) and Kolsch. I try to pick up a mix-a-six every time I'm at the brewery to get some Kolsch, Oatmeal Stout, and Pale Ale (English style!).

I would have purchased three (or so) 6-packs but unfortunately those three (or so) 6-packs I had in my hand were non-fresh.

    Cheers!

Agreed, out of the bottle Kolsch 151 is a nice beer, but on tap it really takes on a new dimension. Used to order small pitchers of it at The Cellar in Blacksburg before the distributor change. Love that it's now available in 12 packs of cans at the brewery, great for summer.

Appreciate all the suggestions. I simply need a break from hoppy beers and 100% guarantee out of town family members will NOT embrace them. Trust me, I already tried and failed miserably lol.

First off, I thoroughly enjoyed the many Schlafly beers before moving away from their distribution zone (Kolsch, Pumpkin, and Stout's were outstanding!). Don't they also have a very nice summer lager?

My first choice would definitely involve some imports. Yes, we have Total Wines & BevMo's in the NW, BUT BUT BUT..... their selection of fresh products borders on criminal most of the time!

The Chuckanut suggestion was brilliant. Totally forgot about them. I do remember Chuckanut having really good Pilsners, Lagers, Kolsch's, etc. IIRC, their bottles are in the 16+oz format. I will definitely call and see about placing an order for a case. Driving to Bellingham, WA from Seattle is not a bad drive at all.

Another Kolsch that I remember being year round is produced by Worthy Brewing (Bend, OR). I regularly see their six pack cans marked around $10.

Lastly, has anyone came up with a trick/technique to land somewhat fresh Reissdorf? Probably a dumb question, but thought I would ask

Do any of your local beer bars carry this beer (or the other German brewed Kolsch beers) on tap? I am fortunate that a number of beer bars near me fairly regularly carry the various German brewed Kolsch beers on draft and so far I have been fortunate that these beers have been fresh. My favorite of the imported Kolsch beers is Sunner Unfiltered; maybe some day you will get chance to try that beer.

    Cheers!

Darn it's my favorite too that I tried this past year and because it is sticky with hops when fresh.

I had it at a bar, and it was advertised as an "Unfiltered Keller Kolsch." It was really really tasty, but my limited knowledge of Kolsch as a style makes me believe that the phrase "Unfiltered Keller Kolsch" is a bit of an oxymoron.

Koelsch is a somewhat delicate beer, disdained by many in nearby and rival-town Duesseldorf, what with their hearty alt beers.

In 2003 I had the afternoon to walk in the shadow of the Koln dome and visit many of the breweries and pubs in the altstadt area. You really can't appreciate how nice a Koelsch can be until you have it where it is made. Most of the Koelsch-style beers I've had in Seattle, as well as the Koelsch bottles from Germany, pale in comparison to it being frisch fom vass. (fresh from tap).

My avatar was taken at the Fruh pub near the train station.

And hopefully the new introduction of this format means that those beers were fresh?

    Cheers!

Reissdorf cans 4pk were close to $17 where I saw them. Alittle too rich for me.

Interesting. Should be more in the $12-$13 range, which puts it just a hair above the per ounce price of the bottles, but you're paying for the absence of light. Worth it in that scenario, but $17 is obviously way too high.
