I know for sure last year, but I'm pretty certain there were restocks of regular the last few years. I picked up a case of 2013 before the new year from Whole Foods LP, and it wasn't leftover from the original release.

Thanks, I hate having to actually shop at a place for anything besides limited releases. Also talking to actually employees, yuk. Good thing I have my fellow BA's so I know to send my Family and their Uber drives to pick while all you suckers are at work. Also If any Fellow BA's want to know about anything limited being released just let know and I'll be glad to help. As long as I'm out of town on that day of course.

Yeah, I love the people that piss and moan when solid BAs on this site are trying to communicate effectively within our community about highly regarded releases.

Yeah it seems Reg and BW have dropped again in NW burbs. Binny's (Lincolnwood?) had a ton sitting out. No dice on Coffee or Prop.

Can confirm the second wave. Cases of Reg, BW and Prop all hit the floor of my local Jewel this afternoon. I finished off a case of Prop, but there were two more full cases when I left, plus lots of Regs and BWs. Still, no coffee. :slight_frown:

Lol. the 25th anniversary of when GI mistakenly thought thy introduced BCBS. Love it! Maybe they'll do another in 2020 on the real one.

If that does turn out to be true, next year is going to be an absolute clusterfuck. Between the return of the rye variant, the fact that next year may be the maple or scotch Prop people were hoping for, the King Henry Pt. 2 and the 25th anniversary Rare, people are going to be trading their first born child for allotments.

Just take it with a grain of salt. I was reading up on what the date really was, then realized it really doesn't matter. If it means some extra awesome beers sooner, I'm all for it.

Reminds me of an old Cheers episode when they were talking about the date on Cheers sign that it was established. Turns out it was just made up.

Yeah, while it sounds like Josh Noel has a pretty good/logical case for 1995, there's no real point to worrying about it. There's no actual proof of a specific date, so at this point you might as well just go with what they've been claiming all along.

I think logically it makes more sense to believe the 1995 date given the evidence Josh presented. When we know the 1992 date was not determined on hard evidence of any kind, but just a guess. Since not enough people care though, Goose has no incentive to re-do all of their marketing and branding and admit they were wrong. It would do nothing but hurt their image and cost them money.

Now, what about the rumor that they got the idea from a homebrew club that did it first?

No, I agree that Josh presented good evidence; I went in kind of rolling my eyes, but his conclusion makes sense. I'm just saying there isn't anything that conclusively points to a date (i.e. "look, here's a paper that says "first BA stout, 1995!")--There's just a bunch of evidence that makes '95 very likely and logical.

Also, I hadn't heard that rumor (the homebrew one), so I found the thread here on BA where that's discussed. It's interesting certainly, but I'm curious why it hasn't been made more of an issue, if there's truth there.

Exactly. It's sort of a like protecting a trademark. If you continue to beat the 1992 date, eventually enough people will believe it to be true and thus you can remain the claim of first to "bourbon barrel age beer." If they switched to 1995 and someone did it between 1992 and '95 GI would be out an epic marketing tool.

Also, let's hope the 25th Anniversary BCBS is not a stout that has been bourbon barrel aged, soured, and then left to bottle condition for two years....
