You know I don't know shit about Prairie, so someone else please help if I am wrong. But I think that Noir is an imperial oatmeal stout, and Bomb is an imperial stout with coffee, chocolate and chilis. So all the adjuncts are just add ons to the respective bases.

are you sure it was Pirate Bomb and not Pirate Noir? Binnys Grand got the same lineup but with Pirate Noir (not bomb). They came and went this afternoon.

Yea, the base stout is different. Noir is imperial oatmeal stout and bomb is an imperial stout (with the "adjuncts" of coffee, chills, cacao, vanilla beans added).

Thanks...I've never had either, so I'm intrigued to try any of them. I wasn't supposed to buy these, but oh well...plus the BCBS...yikes. Must..stop.

I feel your pain. I was doing so well, hadn't bought any beer in December so far - was trying to make it to the new year and then stumbled into all these variants, and some BCS - prop, coffee and some more barley wine ... :grimacing:

As someone who used to live in Texas where one of the few great breweries we had access to was Prairie, I can say the Noir stuff is badly overpriced (it's above average no doubt). Bomb is still overpriced but is at least an excellent beer.

Yeah same here, I don't know what happened. I used to buy a ton, kind of mellowed for a couple years, but right now my fridge is "wife yelling at me" full.

Lots of holiday drinking will be required.

Hey, if you can fit it all in your fridge, I'm impressed!

Yeh, I was gonna say, 75% of my stash is hiding in the basement. My wife can't figure out why I drink most nights but roughly the same amount of beer remains in the fridge.

I think I may try to have my 4-year old convince her the Elf on a Shelf brings it back from the North Pole each night...

It was the first one I dove into. You definitely get big rum notes. Along with all the other great things that come with a Prairie stout. I was very pleased, but had also hoped for Pirate Bomb instead.

All of this. And yet I still buy.

It's been an orgy of stouts the last 4 weeks (Prairie, BCBS, BN2, Dosvidanya, others I've already forgotten about, etc.) and I've had no chance. Lots of things still to come... CW BBS to be exact

Back to Prairie for a moment. Just curious what the bottling date is on what you guys got from LP? I'm wondering if it's the same batch my Binny's got

I drank the Coffee Noir last night (delicious) and I think the date was 32716?

Assuming I was reading it right, and that it was in fact a Julian day followed by year, November 22nd? Also was drunk, could have misread it, and didn't really think too much about it.

I have no idea what I'm doing.

That is the same date my Coffee Noir has as well. Does anyone else's Pirate Noir not have a date? I can't seem to find it anywhere, and the date is easy to find on the other variants.

Is there any general feedback on which of these are better 6-12 months down the road and which are better fresh? I plan on opening one over Christmas, and trying to figure out which one to have.

I drank Pirate Noir right away and thought it was great. Lots of rum and vanilla, very smooth. My brother felt the same. Only other thing I've had in the past was regular Noir from last year. I thought it was pretty hot and could benefit from a little time. I'm going to drink my vanilla tomorrow and will report back.

I hate to say it, but I will pass on CW BBS this year simply because I am full of beer! This 2nd wave of Bourbon County, along with High Westified just filled me up and I still have plenty of CW Barleywine, Scotch Ale, and Cassian. I have passed on a bunch this year and the Binny's guys think I'm missing out.
But to compare 4pks of BA Stouts, I have to go with Drago even though it has a $19.99 price tag this year - though I will only get one 4pk due to the price.
But hey, those Prairie beers are great and are $6.99-$8.99 in NE and MN (I go for business) which makes them a little easier to purchase, especially that Apple Brandy Noir which is the best IMO.

Thanks. Pirate Noir was actually they one I had in my head to drink over the holidays. I look forward to hearing your impression of Vanilla.

Agreed. Very good beer. Definitely doesn't slouch on the vanilla!

Short version- both great, but preferred PN. Glad I got both.

Long version- PN was just more in my wheel house. The rum barrel was definitely there, but didn't mute the stout too much. VN was great, but it's pretty sweet. The vanilla is strong, especially as it comes to temp I just kept getting vanilla butter cream frosting on the nose. Yes, I know this is a vanilla beer, and I generally love vanilla things, but it's heavy. Definitely a dessert beer. If I walked into my store tomorrow and they offered, I'd grab another PN for sure. Just my 2 cents. Curious about other experiences...

I think I'll drink the coffee next. I know, crazy that I drink my beers. But I've got a space:acquisition ratio that currently isn't working in my favor.

Much appreciated. I have a feeling Vanilla won't be in my wheelhouse either, as I'm hit or miss with Vanilla (yeah, perhaps I shouldn't have bought it, but I wanted to give it a try). I'll try to remember to post my impressions - hoping to drink one or two of them before the end of the year, since I've got the same space:acquisition ratio problem.
