Couple of nice local Xmas events yesterday in Bristol. Firstly brewers market at Good Chemistry :

    Good Chemistry Morello Theory
    Good Chemistry Advent Horizon

Then onto the Barley Mow for Bristol Beer Factory 12 Stouts of Christmas :

Bristol Beer Factory Raspberry Ultimate Stout
    Bristol Beer Factory Stoutville Hop
    Bristol Beer Factory Ferrero Rocker

Liked the Ferrero, pure nutella in a jar. Finished the evening with a lovely AMoor at their taphouse.

This was a bottle as well...I was just happy it wasn't skunky.
I made up for my bad beer weekend with a good beer weekend this time. Several pints of Old Engine Oil on Friday, cracked the latest batch of homebrew (galena/galaxy hopped IPA) on Saturday, followed by this year's Good King Henry's reserve with dinner on Sunday.

Just supping on WIlliams Bros newest brew for aldi - called Iconic . APA hopped with cascade, it's pretty decent but the aroma is rather low for a really fresh APA. Also picked up their "Wild Bill IPA" anyone know who brews this one? Not expecting much tbf. Also Broughton santa stout, plus a few M&S beers - Southwold winter IPA (adnams), 6 malt cornish stout (st austell) and Stone IPA

Trying the WIld Bill one, brewed by Marstons accoding to the other place. Another with too low aroma and it is also a bit odd with that, quite metallic. This one has a fair bit of bitterness and has a lot of sulphate in it, give quite a minerally quality and dry finish. Comes across as old fashioned. It's not bad but can't see it appealing to many

Got a Thursday/Friday weekend this week as my last days off before Christmas. Bought some trendy beers (Verdant, Details, Cloudwater) but I'll keep them in the fridge for a day or two to settle down. Advanced thinking leaves me with a brace of Duvels to have with a Chinese takeaway (dream team, surely!).

Trying a stout off - St Austell 6 malt cornish stout vs Boughton Santas Stout, both 4.4%, both laughing untill they pish themselves at Guiness Draught and its lack of flavour at almost the same strength

Broughton has a much better nose but the St Austell wins on flavour. So I decided to mix them. It works !

Weihenstephaner Tradition. Liquid cardboard. Avoid at all costs.

Oh yeah, me too. Can't believe it's from the same brewery.

That should have been Deya not Details. Deya from Cheltenham. Had a quality pale ale from them, Steady Rolling Man, really thick and hoppy.
Following that was the highlight of the night, Cloudwater DIPA v10, a return to form for their DIPA, with loads of bitterness on the finish the past few versions have lacked. Really incredible stuff.
Now onto Verdant Pulp DIPA. Makes me think of an amped up Axe Edge, kind of bigger, hoppier, but also a bit sweeter, and still quite light. Nice but no doubt my tastebuds have been warped by the Cloudwater.

Channelling my inner Bavarian with Ayinger Jahrhundert Bier. Really good lager, nice rich flavour. With fish and chips too.

Having a Belhaven Oat Stout. I'm using a glencairn glass, normally used for whisky. Works ok although it'll take me about five refills to finish this dinky bottle

They're nice those Belhaven Oat Stouts, quite partial to them.

Best beer Belhaven do, it is good although I think it's a tad strong for the amount of flavour

Also had some double joker, another one that I like but perhaps punches a bit under its weight

Last night I had a can of Jai Alai, nice but nowhere near the perfect statement of a beer I had when it was on tap in January.
Followed by a Crate/Rough Trade Citra Pale. It was good, lovely thick soapy cask-like texture though, which surprised me.

Works Christmas lunch yesterday and was surprised that the pub we went to had the titanic plum porter, so I enjoyed two of them with my meal.

I'm going to Buxton tomorrow and had already seen they have that on at the Cheshire cheese which is a titanic pub, so will be trying that there.

Enjoy it mate. Let me know how it is if you get chance, I've only heard good things thus far.
