Any Bells Black Note sightings in DC proper?

 

CBC had it, but they sold out yesterday, so that probably doesn't help you much.

 

They had some at Whole Foods P St behind the bar as of Wednesday evening. No idea if they are still there. It was 2PP

 

Shawan got some Stovepipes in, only $15.99 a can . Also some Avery Tweak next to it on the shelf.

Well is Bell's Black Note 2x as good as Westy, because it was 2x as much money for nearly the same ABV % and 12 oz's.

Has anyone had the beers that they make? I'll admit, I'm hesitant to give that place my money since it's owned by the Westover Market people, but I am curious as to how their beers have been turning out.

 

I've had a couple of their beers. I think both times at Lost Dog. Both were IPA's and both were good(3.5-3.75/5). But I also had a pretty low bar because I really didn't think they were going to be able to pull off brewing on this kind of scale.

Regarding the restaurant, I read the Yelp reviews early on and that scared me away. Sounded like a real shit show. Unsure if it's gotten better.

 

I've been going pretty frequently for their trivia nights on Tuesdays. Most of the in-house IPA's surprised me with how good they were, but the other styles I've had (amber, porter, IPL, and Oktoberfest) were pretty average. Beer prices seem to be right on par with WOB and Rustico and they're definitely starting to bring in some good limited beers. The food is good (miles ahead of WOB), but a bit on the pricey side.

 

Not sure I understand why one would step on other beers when the dissident has been average for years now. Last decent batch was 2012.

 

Ballston. BA Ten Fidy was just all right.

Food was pretty good. It was a bit of a service shit show, but it was also on a live music night. Can't comment on the beer, as that was before (literally the weekend before) they released their own beer. I do have a friend who seems to think their beer is slightly above average.

Update, My Airy is out of Westified. Got in on Wednesday and ran out on wednesday.

 

Result?

We did most variants of GBS from the last two years and 16 CM, Rum, and KCM were my favorites, probably in that order. 15 KCM aged terribly.

Also tried FW XX and XIX side by side and this year wins for me. XIX was still oddly hoppy for my tastes despite the age and the lack of hops in the blend.

 

I've had three hardywood beers from last year this fall. All of them aged terribly. I'm not sure if oxidation was the cause but after choking down a pint they were all drain pours.

 

Same here. I'm hoping the 2015 Xmas Morning that I'm cracking on 2016 Xmas morning is an exception.

 

I had a 2015 Xmas morning recently and it tasted great.
