Between the two possibilities of the snafu with the 2015 bottles... distributor vs. brewery... it is appearing as if it was the brewery. Investigation continues... will let y'all know the final results later.

@Domingo I am with you on the newer batches of bbb being better than the earlier ones. I found the first bbb I had seemed to smell like coffee grounds in the trash, or a filter that sat in a drip machine overnight. It wasn't pleasant at all, now the beer is more balanced and that clash between roasty malts and roasty coffee seems to have gone away.
edit, I have already heard rumors about bcbs being phenolic this year. Anyone confirming this?

Glad I missed out on the earlier batches of BBB, although I would have loved to be able to say 'it was better last year' just because :stuck_out_tongue:

LOL, it is one of those unusual cases where most people think it has gotten better. That's so anti-geek.

Despite being from an infected batch, the '15 bottle I (mistakenly) bought turned out to be good. I wasn't planning for that to be the case so I opened it at 4pm by myself expecting to dump it and ended up drinking it solo, but I am not complaining one bit.

I find 2016 to be essentially equal to '15, which is to say less than every other year I've had it. Now, it's still a good beer. But I'm off the hype train. We have soooo many locals that beat it now, I just can't see putting any kind of extra effort into BCBS. The variants, though, I will probably still try for. I haven't had this year's coffee yet, but even last year's was real good and I really liked Regal Rye too.

The plain stout is fantastic in my opinion, but the barleywine is one of the best beers I've ever had. If we have a local barleywine that can touch it, I'd love to know about it... and buy all of it.

Bligh's has been as good/better than BCB Barleywine depending on the vintage. The first batch of Bligh's was up there with King Henry. The next two were good, but not up to that very high standard. They're drinking better now, though. The ones from the last few years are getting back to being pretty amazing again. Haven't tried this year's yet, but it could potentially be as good/better than BCBB again.

Royal Oil would be another, although that is starting to get a bit more scarce.

Starting to get scarce? This implies it can still be found...

The cooler at the B&B gets restocked pretty regularly. They had some last week.
I'd suspect the once-a-year tourists will buy anything left this evening, but there is still a little here and there.

I'll have to try Royal Oil, heard a lot about it but have never had the chance. I've had 2 or 3 years of Bligh's and I don't agree that it's on the same level as BCB from what I remember. Maybe I'll give it another go.

Found a bottle a couple of weeks ago or so. Was told on the other thread that I paid way to much for it, I agree.

    Cheers!

Damn, it's $20? It used to like 1/2 that. You'd think that with the "power of AB" it would be the cheapest BA stout around.

Dang. You did overpay, usually people are paying $9-12 for those. Sorry man. Hope you liked it!

It's damn sure not MSRP @ $20, but some store fucking blow and inflate prices without concern.
