Anyone find out what they are releasing this Sat? I'm gonna be out of town, but I'd like to start my FOMO a couple days early.

Can't speak specifically to this beer as I haven't tried it - and TBH looking at the ABV maybe you wouldn't expect that term to be used.

But I can see where it can slot in. Using BCBS as an example (popular, high ABV, BA stout). If next year it was thin, with muted flavours - in relation to what we've come to expect from that beer it could be "too drinkable". If you're able to easily chug bourbon county then something's off IMO.

Or maybe I use the term incorrectly. For me I think of drinkability in the way people describe a beer as quaffable (hate myself for using that word - puked in my mouth a little - incidentally not very drinkable). Something like a 3.5% cask bitter is at one end of the scale. At the other are beers like Black Tuesday.

I am going to be in NYC from the 22nd to the 27th. I planned on hitting up OH on Thursday evening. Is it worth waiting until Xmas eve morning if there is going to be a release? What time do they open on release days. The web says 5pm on Weekdays. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

They open at 10am on release days but they tend to open the garage a little earlier then that, especially if the weather is lousy. It really depends on if you really want cans or not.

I would second the opinion that what matters is what you want from visiting. If you want to visit the taproom, have a few pours, and experience the atmosphere, Thursday would be a good time to go. If cans are your interest, definitely wait 'til Saturday. @Kanger may be able to speak if a release is happening, but otherwise watch OH's Instagram feed for news of a release and if it's something you're interested in. I can imagine with Christmas being on Sunday a midweek release of some variety, though that may just be wishful thinking!

This weekly release system implies that every batch is smaller (but same limit) or what?

is the assumption that it will be crazy Friday for this release? I would love to have a few beers while I am there and get some cans to ship home. I have all the time int he world.... no plans.
Would it be okay to bring in a bottle to share?

I don't think it will be as crazy as usual, so you should be fine to grab some cans and head into the tap room. One, its Friday afternoon. Two, it's two days before Christmas. Three, neither of the beers are new. That being said, it's still OH, so I'm sure there will be plenty of people lining up early and getting there directly after work.

Not sure about bottle sharing, so I'll leave that to the others. It certainly will happen in line, but I'm not sure how OH handles it in the tap room.

I would be wary on sharing in line. people do it, but every now and then the police will get someone.

Probably ok, but just a warning.

And bring some sort of coffee cup. Nothing screams "ticket me" quite like sidewalk drinking out of a teku on a Friday afternoon.

@FrankenMiller, what they said. I needed to be clearer in my post as I wanted to point out that it would happen, not that you should join in. Thanks to these two for doing my job for me!

A buddy of mine brought a bottle to share in the tap room; it wasn't too busy and we shared with some patrons as well as the staff working the bar and they were cool about it.

The law is antiquated but in some cases necessary. The issue for visitors is Im pretty sure you have to show up in court in NYC or hire a lawyer to do it for you, I could be wrong.

Edit: Also Im sure OH doesnt want the image of ppl getting busted outside of the brewery.

Unless the law has changed, drinking in public tickets are just a fine. You can mail them in to plead guilty.
