Headed to the city tonight. Anyone know if Clybourn still has any bottles for consumption? Or a spot downtown with some variants on tap?

Call Clybourn (312-915-0071) and ask - they should be willing to help.

Cracked my first BW from this year and enjoyed it quite a bit but not nearly as much as '15 pre-infection. I'm missing those 3rd-use barrels :slight_frown:

Posted in the Stout thread, but thought I would post it here too:
I'm not sure if this something to be excited about or big, but Jewel announced they have more Rare being released at select locations. And they then confirmed on Facebook that they took the feedback from people that bought it at $129.99 on Black Friday, and will be selling it for $79.99. I am not sure what Jewel is doing, and I REALLY don't know what A-B is doing with these additional releases, but I'll hope Binny's gets some and get it there.

Calling it Goose Island Rare 2015 makes my OCD twitch like a *************.

We all know it was a very poor choice of a name.
We all know the "Rare" had to do with the 35yr old barrels, not the bottle count (thank you @jlsims ).
We all know we should stop talking about it... (I'm not helping with that, but I like to talk about beer just like all you fine folks)

In all fairness, 2010 was called Rare because it was aged for 2 years in Pappy barrels (ergo "twice the time in barrels + the best barrels we've ever used!"). So a beer that was aged for 2 years in 35yr old Heaven Hill barrels does still fit the naming convention. The original beer wasn't rare when it came out, either; I'm pretty sure it sat on shelves for at least days at a time (I wasn't into beer then, but I think it was priced at $40 or 45).

Yeah, it's a little surprising how much they made, but people clearly think the beer is worth the money GI is charging, so I guess 2 years in those barrels was worth it?

The question is, will they be selling the other variants also.

Probably not, because those are actually rare....:stuck_out_tongue:

That was the same thing I wondered, and I have to believe it's a no. They just got a second drop of variants last week, but didn't get Rare. This week seems like it's just Rare. (...rubbing hands together trying to throw everyone off so he can get another bottle of Coffee...)

I want that green rare box
Yeah the box that holds a case.
    Why? I'm psycho.
    I have the boxes for prop16, bw16, cs16, reg16, reg15

    I just... need it

I've lived in Logan Square for 8 years and had no idea a Binny's had opened up in the neighborhood until you made reference to it here. Bless you.

I used to live in Logan and have lived in Chicago most of my life, also did not know this.

How has this never come up in a thread I've seen?

When that original Rare came out, the line situation at Binny's was so much less crazy than it is these days. And you're right, the beer sat on shelves in distribution for a pretty darned long time. It was on the shelf (for $50) at my regular neighborhood spot for a good month or so, I'd say. A lot has changed in six years. In 2010, I don't the notion of a $40-50 bomber of beer was pretty foreign. I had friends who thought I was absolutely nuts for spending $200+ to buy 5 bottles of Rare plus Vanilla at that release. And back in the late aughts, BCBS would sit on the shelves for half a year or more. It was just a really good, expensive beer you could grab by the sixer when you were in the mood.

Ok, now I'm devolving into a Member Berry rant...

Seriously! After seeing that post, I Googled "Binny's Logan Square" and whaddya know? At Diversey & Harding, it's obviously a bit west of most of the popular stuff in the area, so I guess I can see why I may have missed it, but I'm still surprised. And yeah, I don't feel like I've seen anyone else make reference to what it has in stock, or anyone discuss what the scene was like there on Black Friday, etc.

Its only been open for maybe 5-6 months I believe, but yeah, it has been mentioned on here. I think many people just overlook Binny's Logan Square as Binny's Lincoln Park. I have definitely done that. Its actually the closest Binny's to me, but I've still never been.
