The descriptor that I'm not very fond of is "chewy". There's something about it I just find a bit pretentious sounding.

I use "chewy" on occasion. I use it for when the mouthfeel is on the heftier side of medium, but not quite to thick/creamy/milkshake-level. But, when it comes to mouthfeel, a big factor is the carbonation ratio contrasted to the actual malt thickness of the beer. A beer with higher levels of carbonation is going to drink a lot easier/faster than one with less, especially if the body is really thick and sludgy.

Dank started out as a very precise and accurate descriptor, but I guess it's now been misused so much that it's lost that quality. Maybe I'll start to use 'God's vagina' from now on .

I can tell you that you do make a "chewy face" when you get a chewy beer. It's takes a few before you catch on but it's really a thing. =)

I agree. There is one shop that makes you buy a 6 pack of Goose Island to get a bottle of BCBS. Last year it was two 6 packs. It's regular BCBS and it's $16 for the bottle. No way is that a deal at all.

Now if it were BCBCS, I might do that once. I've never seen anything other then BCBS or the Barleywine.

If they're going to go through the trouble of setting up different pour sizes, at least buy different size glassware!

Hate to tell you this, but "we old farts" () can't do much to change things back to the way they once were in the meanings of words. Especially when one of the side effects of social media is a wildfire spread of information and usage, whether mis- or not.

BTW, be careful what you start, you might get your wish.

Well since the size of their allotment of BCBS (or any variant) next year is figured on the basis of how much GI they sell during the year, you can look at the purchase you make as in investment in the future.

True, but I don't think that one's an old fart term . We could only get dirt weed back in the day, and we were happy to get it :grinning:.

That's exactly why it could more easily catch on and become popular. :grinning:

True. I tried to run that through my mind, but I still just can't justify it. Now that I know my dad likes their Fulton Street, I may keep it in mind in the future

Probably mentioned before, but my only real pet peeve regarding beer is shrinking pour sizes at bars. I am fine with smaller pours for rare/high abv beers, but when you get 12 oz pours of Two Hearted, or Celebration it just seems like a rip-off. And, quite frankly, it is.

dank is a weedy smell. Like cat pee. But not like the literal meaning of the word dank like in dank basement. I don't think it's all that strange to see that it came originally from the pine scent of the old school IPA. Then softened but added pungency to become "dank." It's not noble hops that are dank although those can have stickiness. Simcoe was a dank hop and also the one that defined juicy.

I regularly use "cat pee" to describe Simcoe. If that's what everyone agrees it smells like, might as well cut to the chase.

This has probably been said before, and it's not really even a "pet" peeve, but I get really annoyed when I go to a bar or restaurant and they don't give me or ask to give me a glass for my bottled beer, and/or give me a dirty look if I have to ask. For crying out loud, no one questions that wine needs a glass, but we're expected to swig beer from the bottle? Respect beer. This is why we're Beer Advocates!

No up-to-date beer menus, no beer menus at all, servers who don't know what beers are available, not near enough saisons/farmhouse ales nearby, distributors who won't pay attention to the craft beer business, stores who don't keep up with craft beer, etc., etc. I know that the world revolves around my wants!!:slight_frown::rolling_eyes:

My good friends wife insists on keeping their pint glasses chilled. They are not craft drinkers at all.
Every time I'm there she insists on getting me a "frosty".
I just drink whatever I brought from the can/bottle as a result. It isn't worth explaining why I don't want a "frosty".

    First World Problems.
