2016 BCBS Chicago Release (Black Friday & Beyond)

Anyone know if that giant stack at binnys Lakeview is still there? Might stop on the way outta town. Merry Christmas everyone

 

It was as of Thursday. There were over 3 cases at the Jewel on Broadway/Foster as of last night. I know that's not exactly near Lakeview but if you have an extra 20 minutes or are headed north...

 

My local Binny's (Elmwood Park). I have no idea if there's any left, but I doubt it. Like some others in this thread, the beer guy didn't want to admit they had it. However, when he went to the back to retrieve a bottle of Café Deth, he came back with it and said it was "the last one". Was it really? I'm not sure given the general secrecy around this drop. I don't blame him given the nature of this release, and I don't want to disparage the guy because he's my new hero. I'm sure it helped that I was in Wednesday asking him about some other stuff.

 

Funny. I was in there last night at 6pm for my Cafe Deth and was told that it was all gone early in the morning...

 

I'm wondering if it's even worth my time to go around a bunch of north shore Binnys to see if they still have it.

 

I was in there around 3 for what it's worth.

 

Fair enough. It does make me a bit steamed though, as I called him at noon about the Cafe Deth and he said all the VR and 14 Prop they received was all gone already.

Oh well, I got a Prop from the Binny's up by work so it could've been worse!

 

About 4 cases of BW and 9 cases of regular left at binnys Lakeview. 2 each

 

I went to the ones in BG and AH yesterday and HP today. They all were strikeouts for VR and Prop. Did get a Deths Tar at HP, but they were out of Cafe Deth there. Just thought I'd save you a trip, but who knows if they do have any of that stuff maybe they'll be more generous today.

 

So anyone in line yet for Monday?

 

I've already lined up for Black Friday next year!

 

Is it safe to assume that coffee and prop16 "seem" more scarce than 2015 rare?

 

The email promotion I received from binnys notes that the there will be a limit of 2 bottles per person tmoro. I think that tells us all we need to know about how "rare" Rare actually is.

 

That's is soooo much Rare '15. I initially was reading/thinking something along the lines of 50-60k (don't have a legit source), but man, now I'm thinking more. I have two bottles still so I'll pass on this Monday thing. But it's still a good opportunity to buy it for those who don't want to pay too much over MSRP.

 

So all binny's are releasing rare tomorrow? Anything else other than rare?

 

I'm in St Charles from out of town - stood in line at the St Charles Binny's on Black Friday before a few years back (first year Prop was released).

Anyone care to give me an idea when it'd be reasonable to get in line?

 

Its hard to gauge since it didn't say that some any chicagoland binny's wont be getting them and thats a lot of stores. But the one day official notice, I dont think that many people out of state will be driving in. I could be wrong though.

Im gonna be at a binny's at least a couple hours before opening..

1. Yes, what you say is correct.

2. However, this is misleading. 2010 "Rare" was sold, in part, explicitly on the scarce bottle count and was hand-numbered. Calling it "Rare" again creates the impression that this beer is similarly scarce. You know what also creates that impression? The plain meaning of the word "Rare." So yeah, sure, there is some other basis upon which they can call it Rare with a straight face, but to act like consumers are dummies for not appreciating the distinction seems a little silly to me.

3. But! Buying a beer because it is scarce, instead of because it's good, seems like doing beer wrong as far as I'm concerned, and just plays into some of the more annoying FOMO parts of current craft beer culture.
