Has anyone had Spangalang's whiskey ba night walker (or any of the other variants)? Just saw they're selling bottles at the brewery so thinking about swinging by at lunch...

River North Wskey Nightmare Fuel : Good coffee flavor, whiskey is noticeable but doesn't override the rest. A little thin on the body, but overall good stuff

Double Barrel Baptist and Baptista are both still on tap at Epic. I had full pours of both last night and seriously love those beers, particularly Baptista. Way to go Epic, wish I would've checked the cooler for bottles but they were closing and I was drunk.

Had my bottle of Baptista over Christmas. Good lord that was tasty! Anyone know what the ABV on it is? Mine said 1.7%, which I definitely assume was a misprint.

Would definitely buy more if any were to be available / found.

It was 11.7 IIRC from the menu last night, super easy to drink though... Same with Double Barrel at 12.3% (also from memory).

11.7 would make sense. Totally agreed; super easy to drink. Looking forward to Double Barrel as well (though it sounds like the unanimous verdict is that Baptista edges it out).

    Baptista is like a snickers.
Double Barrell is like fine ass dark chocolate.

Loveland Ale Works which I'm pretty sure has never been mentioned on BA, just released their Bourbon-Barrel Aged Imperial Stout in 750ml waxed and stamped bombers for $24. Really cool bottle and label. They do have 10% discount for AHA but then charge sales tax AFAIK. ABV unknown.

This beer has big barrel presence, decent body, great flavors. Quite smooth as well. Primary flavors are oak, bourbon, and chocolate, some coffee, some roast. Should hit some local distro (like Thompson Valley Liquors) pretty soon.

Is it worth the money? Maybe not, but it's close. A very nice beer and a good way to support a quality small, local brewery that is constantly improving. And if you are there then Crow Hop and Verboten are both around the corner.

I haven't been up there for a couple of years, but the one time I went I liked everything I tried. They had a coconut porter and imperial stout that were great.

Yeah, their lineup is killer right now, they also have Barrel-Aged Grand Cru with cherries in the waxed bottles, a couple sour beers, a coconut porter, and several IPAs on tap. Really neat historic building in "old town" Loveland

Got BAPTIZED the other night with my brother and a friend in NC...

Tried all 4: Son of A, BBB, Baptista, and Double Barrel

It was incredibly difficult for us to decide which we liked best. They both liked Baptista best, but I still gave DB the slight edge. All four were phenomenal though. The difference in 'enjoyability', so to speak, was minimal at best, and it seemed like the one I liked most was whichever one I had in my hand at the time. While not barrel-aged, Son of A was also a hit too. That's a serious line-up of beers- thankyou, EPIC!

Love Whiskey Nightmare Fuel. I'm a fan of everything River North has done recently: Whiskey Nightmare, BA Avarice, Mr Sandman. All killer, IMO.

Ratio's Genius Wizard is also a recent fave.

Just a heads up for those attending Big Beers this weekend: we'll be pouring a preview of Bourbon Barrel Here Be Monsters, a 12% Imperial Stout aged 11 months in Woodford Reserve barrels. Hope to see you there!

Had the Night Walker Con Alma a while back. It was absolutely excellent...

Never tried a beer like this: evidently they brewed the base beer then re-fermented it with some sort of wine grapes IIRC. Lots of dark fruit to go along with a nice roastieness and bitter chocolate. Seriously like nothing I've tried before or since.

Not [technically] a stout but Colorado Native's Imperial Porter (lager) has been partially aged in bourbon barrels and tastes mighty fine for $9 / 6 pack. It was so smooth and drinkable that I did something rather rare for me and went back to back on a couple. I will probably be picking up more of this because it's so nice at the price point. Even the whiskey barrels were sourced from Colorado.

Opened my bottle of raspberry imperial stout this weekend and was a bit underwhelmed. Seemed "thin" to me and the barrel overwhelmed most of the beer for me. What's everyone else's thoughts?

I haven't opened a bottle recently, but on tap when it released I didn't have any issues with the body, which is something I'm pretty picky about. I also thought the raspberry was much more prominent than the barrel. Even my wife likes that one and she is super sensitive to any barrel aging and doesn't care for it.
I have a bottle in the fridge now, maybe I'll pop it open this weekend to see what it's doing.

Finally tried the bottle of Legend of the Liquid Brain on Saturday, and, man, is that good?!?

In my experience, there isn't anything else in state that touches this. Great barrel/whiskey presence, while not over-powering the base beer. Near perfect viscosity. This beer reminded me a lot of BCBS, but not quite as thick and sweet which is a good thing IMO. A little pricey, but certainly not unreasonable for that level of quality. I'll definitely be grabbing this whenever I see it again.
