I had it on draft last week while I was there. As eifster82 said, its a completely different beer. Its like a hoppy, juniper-bomb barleywine. I wasn't a big fan, but I haven't had many BA pales/IPAs that I really enjoy.

It's good stuff. If I thought it would age well I would have gotten a case. This is on point right now and I don't think it will get any better with age.

Ouch. Big mark-up from the $15 they went for at FFF.

I agree but that seems to be the way things are in Chicago. I'm still seeing Red Death on shelves at Binnys for $18.99.

Non-BA Alpha Kong is an almost undrinkable cardamom bomb (at least the summer 2015 release was) -- medicinal and foul. FFF's BA beers are pretty hit and miss overall IMO, and given the price points are easy passes for me. For $40, I'm expecting world class, and a decent % of the time you're getting "meh" or worse, a Bully Guppy / Biggs 'Stache level drain pour. Over the years I've learned the hard way to stick with the usual suspects at the kiosk and judge the experimental stuff based on draft pours first before shelling out big bucks for multiple bottles.

Yeah, I made that mistake with Wig Splitter. Coffee fell off real fast.

With tax still averages around the same. More convenient to shell out a few more dollars than parade around Chicago liquor stores looking for it.

Just picked one up. The Brandy is heavy and sweet. The beer is excellent. It's 13.5% and 548 bottle count. It's a great Improvement upon the base beer

An extra bonus is that it just went on tap when I got there. The barrel aged Alpha Klaus ran out and they replaced it with the Brandy Barrel Alpha Kong so now I can sit on my bottle even longer
