I'm really wishing that they had their new bottle/batch dating up and running for this release. My first bottle had the nose and taste I remembered, with perhaps a tiny more bitterness on the finish, but it's (still) overwhelmed by the astringency. The flavor profile on this bottle is uber tropical and citrus, just how I remember and like it. Nose still has some dankness/earthiness. The bottles my buddy brought back have some age on them, which is why I'd really like to know if we're comparing apples-apples/batches-batches, cause I'm not noticing a huge disparity from what I remember the last time I hit their lottery (2 years ago). And for ANYONE willing to flush theirs, I'll pay you to ship them to me in the chance they taste the same as the one I'm drinking now. Lastly, I'd have to object to calls for a recipe change (not that I dislike Raja).

Shifting gears, the Winter Ale/5th Anniversary I grabbed the other day in Sac did not nearly have the punch you in the face dry citrus that I remembered. Perhaps similar variability as folks are observing with Citra...who knows. But I'll keep buying and won't be flushing anytime soon.

Quite happy to see KRBC stuff with regularity, really looking forward to cans and River Buddy.

    Cheers

I thought I saw a bottle date in yellow ink around the neck on one of the bottles I had. I will double check when I got home. I remember being excited about them finally bottle dating.

Had about twenty pints of Double Citra last night at Sea Star, nice to see it in SF.

It's really nice to see all the Kern River bottles back in the LA/OC area. And some places more bottles than others. Lets hope its not going to be sitting on the shelf as time goes on. :grimacing:

KRBC posted today that their canning line arrived along with JO cans. Distro in late January.

I nearly jizzed when I saw that picture. JO will be a definite go-to sixer for me. Hoping to see all the regular line up in cans especially Gravity Check and Class V.

I'm a simple man. Simple things excite me. Wouldn't want pills to suppress that.

That said, given the limited players in the year-round hoppy red game, I'd buy Dirty Hippie year round now...cans would cement that.

One gripe is that while I've finally started seeing bottles of JO in Norcal with yellow dates on the necks, not a single one has been legible. Every single one was smeared. Growing pains I'd guess, but glad to finally know the age of their stuff once the kinks are worked out.

Wake me up when they start distributing Citra again. Ah, sweet nostalgia.

I think it was mentioned before that they had issues with the dates on the bottles. Maybe the new canning system will change that.
As far as cans go. I'll take what ever they shove out to us here in SoCal area. Most anything KRBC is good with me. But yeah as far as Class V stout @t 8% in cans? Bring it on. Kern's stuff is still on top level as far as I'm concerned. Better than ABC these days.

My local has 5 different Kern stuff in the cooler. Isabella and Pumpkin has been in there for a while now.
