A few of the Mikerphone SS batches were the only ones that I thought had the texture of a Tree House IPA - thicker but not in a harsh way. The ones above and the first Galaxy Bowl batch were all on point with taste, though each in their own subtle way.

    Shhhhhh!

Just because it's on social media doesn't mean we can't pretend it doesn't exist until AFTER I buy my cans!

I'm more hoping for Marz to can Midway right now, but I'm definitely looking forward to trying a citra and motueka hop blend from Hop Butcher. This will hopefully also answer my question about variation between batches of GB (i.e. if this beer has the hallmarks of what I loved about GB batch 1, I won't worry too much about consistency).

Yeah, but it's only 7.5%! That seems like a fairly good balance, to me.

For me, 8% is the IPA/DIPA line.

    If it's under 8%, I can have a few. If it's over...better have just 1.

Did some wind sprints up to Bitter Pops over lunch and had a ChiPA. Really, really good NEIPA. Still think I prefer OG Galaxy Bowl, SS7/ 9, and The Juice is Loose, but I'd definitely seek out ChiPA if it were bottled/canned.

Irrelevant to the thread, but that was my first time at Bitter Pops and I came away impressed. Total organic conversation with the staff about the 2 things nearest and dearest to me, beer and bbq. I'm pretty devout to the bottle shops in my neighborhood that are close, but Bitter Pops may have earned a spot in the rotation. Great shop.

Yup, agreed. They don't have the size to carry every bottled/canned beer, but they've got a good selection, and the taproom is really nice. Staff is top notch, too; very personal touch.

What's the deal with the tokens they hand out?

I believe if you spend $25 you get a token. Collect four and come back for a free pint of anything on draft.

If you get a Bitter Pops shopping bag (they're free), any time you buy any beer from the shop (hard liquor too, I'd imagine), you get a token. So the $25 thing comes into play if you don't have a bag, but you can grab an $8 bottle and get a token if you bring the bag.
Nah, your best bet there is getting to know the staff, like anywhere else. :stuck_out_tongue:

Chi-PA is just another fantastic brew from Marz! Let's start a petition for 12pks of that!

2 glasses of that warms the soul quite nicely

After all the hype surrounding Galaxy Bowl and trying batch 2 of said hyped beer (ended up drain pouring it) unless someone else is buying I ain't trying it.

Would rather have a Hailstorm Cumulus, not as cloudy as some but very flavorful. Also like some Get Fresh Flow if Mike gets around to making some more.

If you drain-poured batch 2, I'd be highly surprised to hear it's similar to batch 1. It might not be everyone's style, but it was definitely very in the NE IPA vein. Weirdly, my first batch of Cumulus was great, and I felt like the last batch wasn't very flavorful.

I think these breweries must be fucking with us.

I know I'm in the extreme minority, but I really didn't like the Marz Chi-PA. It tasted like straight grapefruit juice and full disclosure, I hate grapefruit juice. I can definitely see why people like it, though. Different strokes and all.

And if there's Citra in there, I would be surprised. Or maybe there is, but it's being completely overpowered by the other hops. I don't think we'll ever know. Either way, if he makes more of it I'll gladly let others try it.

Having never had batch 1of GB I have nothing to compare it to but for me the Yeast seemed to be the problem. Tasted more like a Belgian Ipa, something along the lines of Bedlam from Ale Asylum (which is a good beer when your in the mood for a Bipa) not the tropical juice bomb the reviews stated.

You might be on to something because Cumulus has seemed to have some variance from time to time. Just picked up some Stratus (12/21) from HS and will see were that takes me. Brewers might need to get a 100,000 gallons of east coast H2O and see if that helps nail down the style.

Local Brewers are definitely putting there best foot forward in there attempts to brew there version of the East coast Ipa. I have not got around much to try all the new versions from local brewers but right now in the northwest burbs I think Ram's Juicy is about the best I have tried so far along with the tap room version of Beer Hates Astronauts being 2nd.

Would much rather drink local but still have to do some trading on occasion to get my East coast Ipa fix. Think I will spend some time backtracking this thread for some other recommendations but it seems they do disappear fast upon release.

    Cheers
