For what it's worth, I believe this is around the price all those hallowed beers coming out of MA are per 4-pack. $5 for 16 oz. is fine in my book.

I have to say, both Morning Fog and this batch of Juice is Loose are excellent. Transient is really dialin it in!

Yeah, price gouging is a pretty low rent accusation.

Okay, so...damnit, there is way too much good beer coming out of Chicago now. I rushed out to Beer Temple when I saw this hit, since I've heard such good things about it. The mouthfeel is very slightly less "full" than Reply Hazy (for a current comparison), but I think it's a little better carbonated.

The awesome part to me, is that this is one of the few NE-style beers around here that tastes really brightly hoppy; I've complained about other beers in the style having muted hops, but there's none of that here. Also, and this is a big one for me: This beer has redeemed my beloved citra hops. I wasn't sure citra worked as well in this style of IPA, but it just turns out I wasn't drinking the right ones.

As with all the other beers in this thread, individual tastes will vary, but I'd highly recommend everyone try and grab a 4-pack if they can. You can consider that my way of saying that this is in my top tier of local NE beers. I'm pleasantly surprised by the fact that this exceeded my expectations.

    100%

I've had a Morning Fog, Reply Hazy, and a Juice is Loose tonight. MF and JiL absolutely stand out, and I will be enjoying every can of those that I purchased today!

I'm right with you, I told myself I was done buying beer until 2017 weeks ago. Since then, I've purchased something nearly every other day.

Here's a picture of the Morning Haze I picked up this morning. While the color isn't as bright as Juicy, every other character is there and is definitely the best of the 3 I've tried tonight.

Man I got really lucky today. I was at the Ram in the afternoon and was there basically when it sold out(like 3:30ish). Someone there that just got some Juice is Loose came bay and asked to trade 1:1 for some morning fog. Im going to try some side by side tomorrow.

Was that you at the bar with another guy and we swapped 6:6? If so, thanks again and cheers again- I have my New Years treats all lined up! Glad to have a few of each (and a growler of the fog).

Had GB, MF, and JIL tonight, and damn it's great to live in Chicagoland area right now! JIL is my favorite out of the three, with MF second, and RH third. RH was really good, but has a alcohol burn finish. Might have to wait a bit to crack the others I have. But fo'real, that JIL is the ish. Wish I could get more!

I paid $22 for a four pack today of joose is loose, definitely was very surprised at the price... Considering that's far more than most any non barrel four pack.

You can't call it gauging if that is what the brewery is nearish what the brewery is charging but yeah, not sure id pay it again. It's definitely above even the premium ipa prices, and comparing across formats really isn't a fair comparison for obvious reasons.

That's said it's a very tasty beer and I enjoyed having one tonight.

I appreciate you buying the beer, but I'm not familiar with the obvious reasons you can't compare across formats?

Most every other brewery my size and many that are far larger opt to use bombers for a DIPA. Bombers have half the packaging cost (the highest cost of the total product), though they can command a higher price?

With a format difference I'm mostly referring to a difference in price point. Buying a bomber for $10 is different than buying twice as much of the same beer for double. As someone who loves beer and enjoys trying all sorts, I'm inclined to prefer a lower price point even if the cost per ounce is less. Maybe I'm in the minority here.

Honestly, I can't even remember ever paying for a four pack that cost $22 and wasn't barrel aged.

As I said though, I really enjoy the beer you make, was just taken aback by the price.

I think we should take a step back from the price discussion, because most of us here (I'm assuming) don't understand all the costs that go into brewing, especially on a smaller scale. My worry is that if there's too much pushback on price here, we won't see as many of these sort of beers in the Chicagoland area. Imagine if there was a huge outcry at Treehouse for what they're doing; they'd probably do low-rent versions of what they're doing now, and everyone in the NE area would suffer.

The other thing to consider is that places like Mikerphone are charging what, $15 a bomber for SS? If SS is worth $15 for a 22 oz. bottle that you more or less have to drink in one sitting, JIL and other comparable beers are worth $20 for 64 oz. that you can drink in 4 separate, equally fresh sittings.

Mikerphone I think is 12 or 13. And it's 25 oz. Changes the math a bit. But your point still carries.

Regardless- I think they'll keep making it if it keeps flying off the shelves

You're right, they are 25 oz. bottles, I wasn't thinking, and the $15 was lazy, but yeah.

    Treehouse beers are cheaper FWIW

And I didn't mean to spark a price debate, I only meant to say I was surprised by the price given I can't think of any four pack that was priced higher that wasn't barrel aged

Dude, don't get caught up in these discussions. Just keep pumping out great beer. I would say that there's no reason to worry about price unless your product isn't selling. I appreciate the passion, but it's the quality of your product that compels me to purchase.

I don't think it's a bad idea for him to engage in this. Transient runs a business and they should encourage thoughtful feedback (which can be rare on the interwebs). I appreciated both their response and the poster's response. Seemed like a nice discussion. Responding to comments/responses on Twitter or Instagram (or Facebook probably, but I'm not on that) is a whole different story.

As to your point about not having a reason to worry unless your product isn't selling, that's true in the here & now, but I'm guessing the folks as Transient realize there is much more than the "here & now"...as well as much more than just us craft beer nerds on BA.
