Surly put out a release calendar this year for anyone who is interested. Looks like they will be canning/bottling a few new things this year.

Looks like they'll be bringing back Wet after skipping it in 2016, and will be doing some nitro stuff. Should be interesting.

    Cheers!

Doddy Geezer is the renamed Surly Mild.
At some point Todd the Axeman will be getting a new name surely.

Have to say I'm kinda disappointed they haven't dropped Cynic or Bender in favor of something newer from the taproom exclusives. They are not bad beers by any means but I just never even consider them anymore... kinda bored . If you look at some big brewers like Left hand are doing for 2017 ,they are really shaken up their slate in a good way. 12 pack cans, new beers, mix packs ...new session Ales in cans !

Can't believe Surly don't have a mix pack like Stone or New Belgium yet...More profit in selling 4 cans at a time I guess but the customer notices it.

I don't think think they can rename it. It was a collab with Amager and they agreed on the name....

I don't buy too much Bender anymore either, but it is a top ten rated brown ale and one of their flagship beers. I imagine it'll be a mainstay on their canning line for years to come.

Sad to see Blakkr got the axe. I know Black IPAs aren't super popular, but it was one of the better ones out there (though it was rather overpriced). Probably cut due to the ties that beer has to FFF.

Doesn't mean they couldn't agree on a new name....

However, I suspect the brand is still seen as pretty valuable. The beer has a great reputation.

I heard from a guy who knows a guy who probably made it up, but it will still be called Todd the Axeman, but Todd will be really small and it'll be commonly referred to as "Axeman". That's probably not even worth 2 cents.

They should leave it alone....they owe him that much.

The fact Bitter Brewer (in its original form) remains absent makes me sad. The fact #merica is it's replacement is an MFing travesty....

Blakkr and Bitter Brewer were dropped because they didn't sell, #Merica did.

    Variety packs could happen eventually.

There's nothing in here about formats, either, so who's to say if they'll stick with 4pk 16oz cans all year or change up formats/pricing to entice the market.

Anyone hear anything about what this year's anniversary beer could be, style-wise?

I loved Bitter Brewer, and I loved #merica. The price point and flavor profile of #merica made it a repeated buy last year.

I really did not care for Merica! At all.. But I did buy lots of Xtra Citra.. Relatively cheap (for Surly) and right up my alley. Although if I recall, Xtra did not go over well with most here.

Yeah it felt like they took a batch of Florida Sue and watered it down. I wanted it to be good, but eh.

I mean, it was also $2-3 less per four pack than Sue, so you get what you pay for. I was a big fan

I have a more brutal take on the beer. It has no complexity at all, little flavor, and a thin body. It is near the bottom of the pack of the "session ale" category, meaning there are much better session ales out there, including most of the other Minnesota-brewed session ales. Basically, it is a waste of good Citra hops, IMO. (As I said, a more brutal take on it.)

My guess is that since Xtra-Citra was the spring seasonal last year but it appears they are turning it into a year-round release after it's spring release date, that beer will still be holding the "Spring Release" time slot this year.

Cacao Bender slated for Jan/Dec, I wonder if that will be bottled or canned.
Nevermind....juust saw it was part of the Nitro Program.
