    Aying and/or Andechs are musts in my opinion.

    if youre getting the train between munchen and bamberg nurnberg can be worth a few hours when you change trains, theres barfusser brewpub, altstadthof brewpub and landbier paradies to stop in at

    I will probably stop off in NBG. I have a friend over there that's running an American-style brewery, and I'm curious to see what he's doing. If I'm there for more than a few hours, I'm definitely interested in seeing what the city has to offer. I've stopped off there to change trains a few times, but I've never been outside of the station before.

    Andechs is always a must. Been there every time I've been to Bavaria and I don't see that changing. I've only been to Aying once, but I enjoyed it, too. That's been something like 8-9 years ago, so I'm due to return.

    I'm guessing a browser/privacy/firewall issue on the browser or server.

    I'm not surprised that Riegele would produce a tasty "craft" style of beer, they know how to produce well made, clean German style lager beers, and both their Herren Pils and Commerzienrat are hop forward for their style. The main "problem" for a traditional brewery I would think would be to produce a clean fermentation profile (since American craft breweries go for a neutral yeast profile despite being top fermented), and deliver the hop punch that a modern beer drinker expects. Both of which I'm sure Sierra Nevada were able to help them with.

    Unertl makes some of the best Weißbier in Germany, but are unsung heroes like Gutmann.

    Over the years, the Erdinger seems lackluster compared to many top notch versions, their dunkeles Hefeweizen is the only one I care for, and that is not on my favorite list.

    Don't forget Huber in Freising. The dunkeles is very good and the walk is closer than Weihenstephan from the train station.

    Schlenkerla has always been a bit more elusive than others over here, and not easy to find fresh. The end of last year was great from this local beer shop, though, and hope they keep delivering like this. I have yet to visit Upper Franconia but the Märzen was sensational and this batch made my December.

    You have to love the fastness and the printed spanish traslation. German efficency for exports has reached Bamberg it seems, which is great news!

    I am assuming that 11/2017 is the best by date? I am guessing that they are using a one year best by duration?

    Cheers!

    You assume right on the best by date ("consumir antes de") and i always thought the duration is one year too, for most of the germans at least (including doppelbocks). December looked like this for example;

    A one year best by duration for the Doppelbock style makes sense to me since they are very high gravity beers. A one year best by duration does not make sense to me for lower gravity beers.

    YMMV.

    Cheers!

    I agree that is far too long.

    Got in a box of various bocks and doppelbocks from mein-biershop today. First up, Kneitinger Bock.
    Surprising just how stout-like or perhaps schwarzbier-like it is. There's a pronounced roasty quality in the nose and a nice roasty bitterness in the finish too. Don't think I've ever had a german made bock with such strong roast characteristics. Much less sweetness comes through than in many other bocks Ive had. Very nice!
