Wonder how he felt when he realized he couldn't bring kids in to the bar.

I did not know this. Isn't HpB considered a brewpub? They do serve food there.

They're still under The Hermosillo Club's liquor license most likely

As @cquiroga so eloquently put it somewhere else:

"HPB =/= The Hermosillo. These are two distinct businesses, located under one, shared roof. Technically different addresses, even.

The Hermosillo is not a restaurant, but it is technically a bar, with a Type 42 ABC license (beer and wine sales, public premises), which does not allow minors to be on site. I believe they are actually required to have a sign stating that nobody under 21 is allowed. They are not required to serve food in order to have this license, but it is an option. A delicious option that they deliciously opted to embrace.

HPB is the brewery, which is located in the back of the building in the small garage/storage area, and is not really open to the public. HPB has a Type 23 license for a Small Beer Manufacturer. They brew and package beer that they sell direct to customers and also self-distribute to a select number of accounts, including (conveniently) The Hermosillo."

And with this upcoming year likely providing us another Highland Park Brewery location it will be more important to differentiate the two, though most likely in communication, it will be clearly stated as something like HPB Chinatown Tasting Room, etc.

Again, I did not know that HpB and Herm are 2 totally different places. I guess I never did my homework. Thank you.

Too much to type on my iPhone with my big fat fingers. I don't know how these kids do all that typing with 2 hands/fingers. Sorry.

Is there a line at these releases or is it pretty easy to get cans later on?

At the beginning yes, usually dies out and lasts a few hours.

Generally yes, but with "cloud" in the beer name this could bring increased crowds.

Hoping with all the releases this week, that it's not the case. Won't be able to get there till the evening.

I think the one time they did sell out fairly quickly was good green

So how does the Hermosillo do growler fills? I know I pay HPB, because they make you pay separately, but the beer comes from the Hermosillo, or am I missing something. I am sure it is legal but I have never understood it.

You're missing the part where the growler fills come from different taps than the draft beer served in-house-- even if they're the same beer. There is an arrangement between HPB and Hermosillo to allow a limited number of beers available for growler fills (technically from HPB-- which is why you pay a separate tab for your growler fills), and there are often a much greater number of beers available for consumption inside The Hermosillo.

The kegs used for growler filling are HPB's inventory, and they are selling beer "direct to consumer" in those growler fills. The kegs used to fill your glassware for consumption in the bar are The Hermosillo's inventory, and the beer arrived in your glass after a quick run through the ol' three-tier system-- they were "self-distributed" to The Hermosillo by HPB.

Sometimes you will notice that one of the limited (usually 3) growler fill options is not available for a short while, even though you could still order a glass of the beer over the bar... This is the reason. The keg used for growler fills (HPB's keg) is empty, and yet there is still beer in the Hermosillo keg. Once in awhile, you will actually find that there are beers available in growler fills that are *not* available over the bar... And this is because the Hermosillo keg ran out, while the growler fill keg still had the goods.

You also may have noticed that bottle pick-ups for HPB beers are done inside The Hermosillo, and once again those are part of HPB's inventory. But they also sell a small amount of bottled beer to The Hermosillo (and, again, "self-distribute" it there), which you can purchase *for onsite consumption only* from the bottle fridge at the far end of the bar. This is all done on a similar arrangement to the draft dispense-vs.-growler fill separation.

    Sounds legit to me.

None of this is helping me since I'm flying out on Friday and will miss the can release...but be flying back on Monday.

This explains the time I was drinking Good Green and it was on the Growler Fill board but the keg blew right as I went for a fill, and I couldn't hang out long enough for them to swap.

As a South-OCer who infrequently makes it up there, It still haunts me to this day.
