I'd take ccb beers over many breweries across the nation. I agree with all the sentiments here that Huna has gone downhill. But I'd still take any of their beers at the brewery over what I have available on the shelf here in FL. Just because people overhyped it doesn't make the beer bad. How many breweries can you walk into with 20 beers on tap, with some great special treatments. Like others I frequent AC and other places just because they have different stuff.

I agree Ccb shouldn't distro jai alai, but apparently there is still demand and money to be made. The hop forward NE style IPAs everyone loves, don't hold up well on shelves and on tap.

There are so many terrible breweries, especially in Florida with beers on shelfs that i don't understand. CCB isn't one of them.

Are they over hyped, yeah, so is Cycle and plenty of other places that have carved out a niche. But the beers are still good. The competition is changing as are peoples pallets and wants. But I wouldn't deter a beer drinker from visiting Ccb. I also would tell my out of state friends to run and by the core beers over local brewery output. So getting excited over Ccb distro is only for the states that lack some good local stuff. And there are still plenty of states like that currently.

How had Huna gone downhill? I've never had it but I have a bottle of this year's and I've been looking forward to drinking it soon. Now, less so.

If you haven't had Huna it may be great for you. The base beer and thickness and mouthfeel are still great. The treatment, peppers, cinnamon, vanilla etc hasn't been as good as it has been since day 2014. There is always some variation year to year. As the amount produced has increased it's been a little more variable. Again still one of the best base stouts, and the treatments are good. I'd take any year Huna over things like dark lord and other beers. Also when it first came out it was in a different league but other stuff out there now has made people rethink

If you enjoy RC Cola, you will love the last batch of Huna.

Don't agree with this assessment but certainly different opinions out there.

I had Huna on tap at CCB last week. It was delicious. Still had a nice heat on the back end. I'm still sitting on one bottle as well. It might not be a life changing beer but it's still damn good.

Was it a '15 or '16 that was straight cola?

15 was spicy IMO. 16 wasn't good at all. Well let me say it's still a good beer but not up to it's normal quality. Every year before it cinnamon, or vanilla or the spice that stuck out and the rest of the beer complimented it. 2016 was just a muddled mess because of the extremely large quantity made.

I go to Huna Day now because it's a great event and I get to see a lot of friends that I don't normally get to see. Getting some Hunahpu isn't really important to me now.

You would be hard pressed to find any brewery put NE IPAs on Store Shelves. I only know of one and that Singlecut and thats in a few places. WC IPAs last longer on shelves therefore its a better value prop for the store and an easier decision for the brewery to put them on shelves as it would ruin their rep after the store keeps it sitting out on a sunny shelf for a week.

Yes we do. It's hard on the wallet to like stouts and live in Tampa Bay.

With n=5 blinded tasters, it was '16 Huna with no one rating it in the top half of spiced stouts. Mean performance 2nd worst out of 10 spiced stouts, with only End of Days performing worse (but significantly so). Obviously we should repeat the testing heheh.

I'm not being argumentative, because I just got this beer and I have not tried it myself, but it has a 92 on BA, so I'm a little surprised to read this.

We see Jai Ali & maduro here in VA but that's about it (wo once recently), I was looking forward to a few different/new ccb beers.

Relying on BA scores to be an accurate representation of how 'good' a beer is, is like relying on prayer as an effective contraceptive method.

I get your point, and of course you cant trust any scoring system completely, but a good BA score and "pretty terrible" seem to be more far apart than I'd expect.

But hey, what do I know - praise Jesus.
