A Beer Party to Celebrate the New Beer

    Details

"let us give a party, a beer party to celebrate the new beer—of course quite simply, but let's have a lot of people."
    -Thomas Mann

The Referend Bier Blendery will be open to the public for the first time on Saturday, December 3rd, from 2-8pm.

There will be a selection of all spontaneously fermented, barrel-aged beer available: 4-5 casks pouring a range of our mature Berliner Messe, as well as Jung, a beer brewed and fermented in Belgium's lambic tradition, pulled prematurely from the barrel to taste the progression.

Nina's Waffles of Princeton will be there to supplement with fresh, hot Belgian waffles.

This opening date begins our initial schedule of operating hours: we will be open the first and thir...d Saturdays of each month from 2-8pm.

At this point in time, we cannot offer any beer to-go; bottles will be available for sale in the spring, pending successful bottle refermentation and conditioning.

NOTE: We are allotting a considerable portion of our total existent mature beer to this opening date, but it is still conceivable that we run out of beer toward the end of the evening. If you're traveling a great distance, please consider showing up a little earlier or checking the status of beer availability on this event page or Twitter, which we will keep updated.

Had a chance to drop in to the Brick Farm today for Troon's grand opening. Food was excellent. Beer was as well. Tried Troon's Saison, wheat pale, wheat ipa, honey and oat, double ipa, and porter.. all were quite good. Wheat ipa, and dipa were my two faves. Glad to be local, and hoping I'll be able to grab growlers from Troon on the regular.

my wife and i went up there on Saturday for lunch and beer. I will absolutely return to the establishment. Food was dynamite. Beer was pretty delicious. Had a flight of each of the beers and thought the DIPA stole the show, but the other offerings were not duds. The flights were 5 or 6 oz. pours for $2.50 seemed like a fair deal to me - and easy for the wife and i to share and discuss. What a sweet little venue they have. Big old farm, beautifully restored farm house for the restaurant and bar and a barn in back for the brewery. Also a couple other buildings on premises - not entirely sure what they are used for. Didn't take a tour of the brewery but did go back to the barn to purchase a glass. I'm hopeful for this brewery!

I stopped by yesterday, so I'm not sure if the banner was up or not, but the building to the left of the brewery had a banner for spirits, so I'm thinking that there is going to be a distillery operating there.

I took my wife to the Tavern for her birthday two weeks ago and while she got the wine tasting with dinner, she was very jealous of the 3 different Troon beers I had with dinner (with Bogo being both our favorite).

The glass was a must buy for me, I'm glad they lasted until yesterday!

I guessing you went to Brick farm tavern and talking about Troon. Both Troon and The Referend Bier Blendery are being discussed in this thread.

James Priest — The Referend Bier Blendery, New Jersey
Historically speaking, traditional Lambic Belgian beer doesn’t come from New Jersey. But James Priest is lining up barrel after barrel in Hopewell Township, aging armies of green bottles to tart fruity perfection. And lambic beer is due for some time in the spotlight. Priest's lambics, despite their label as a beer-drinker's beer, will appeal to non-beer drinkers across the board. Fermented with fruits like peaches, raspberries, nectarines, and grapes, his blended sour beers can appeal to the wine crowd, the "I'll just have a margarita," crowd, and the beer crowd simultaneously.

Grabbed a growler of Working Retail the afternoon before Chirstmas eve. Excellent beer. Drinks way too easy for 10.1%.

How are the prices for growler fills at Troon?

Depends on the beer I believe. I've grabbed 3 different 32oz fills there so far. Dog eared novel was $10. Take off your Skin was $10. Working Retail was $12.

Haven't filled any 64oz though so no idea there.

$12 for a 32 oz is a bit high for me to pull the trigger. I normally hit the ceiling at $10. I did like the beer though. I got the Oats and Honey and the IPA (whatever the names are) so I must've paid the $10.

I'm sure as Troon becomes more efficient the prices will edge down slightly. Well I hope at least, lol... Based on my location though, driving 8-10 miles for a $10. fill is still preferable to driving 25-50 for a $6-9. fill. The time savings alone justify the expenditure for me.

I just read through the thread and am a bit confused. Brick Farm Tavern is a restaurant and Troon is the brewery? Does Troon have a bar or is the bar/growler fill at Brick Farm Tavern? I plan on stopping by Troon next weekend for some drinks and growler fill, no food. Does anyone know their hours?

    Thanks!

Troon is brewery on Brick Farm Tavern premise (a small restored 100 year old barn). When I went there few months ago, only way to get their beer was at Brick Farm Tavern (awesome bar and great farm to table restaurant). Now that they are filling growlers, I am not sure where they do that. Brewery space is really small and dont think they have any plans of having separate bar within that space. Hope this helps.
