Getting a SMaSH recipe together for a saison. Was originally planning on a Belgian pilsner/Czech Saaz combo, but I'm reconsidering... I've used Saaz way too many times, and I want to try a new (to me) hop. Based off your experience, what would you go with? 2 things that won't change: - 12 lbs Belgian Pilsner malt - Yeast Bay Saison Blend Also, if there are any other suggestions, feel free to throw them out there. Earthy/spicy hops are what I'm after. Citrusy is good too. Thanks for the input!
I have used all of those hops before (just not in a saison) and cannot imagine going wrong with any of the four, but my vote was for EKG since I am in love with that hop.
Yeah any would be great as another suggestion, a bunch of other slovenian ones would be good - I love celia, bobek (lemony) or aurora {super styrians}
I also voted Strisslespalt. When I brewed my first 1896 Michelob beer I used a 50/50 mix of Strisslespalt and Saaz for flavor/aroma additions and I really liked the flavor contributions of Strisslespalt. to that beer. Cheers!
