Layers will be your friend. Also something to break the wind. I think wind is the worst part when it is cold, it can really cut through you.

I agree completely about the wind. It's the wind chill that's the worst. Even a little breeze can take a temp of 10 degrees and make it feel like -5. If you plan on walking around town or waiting outside, bundle up.

Oh sweet jesus. Alright midwest peeps. This fella's life is in your hands. Make sure the Texan doesn't die! Heed the advice from folks here. Layers with wind protection (think Gore-tex) when it is that cold. A good hat, mittens, and scarf will serve you well.

I'm sure there will be plenty of neckbears breaking wind all over that town.

Yes! They hibernate in the summer and drink sours in their slumber. They're a fickle beast.

50-60% chance of snow Friday in Decorah totaling 2-5 inches and 4-7 inches in Des Moines. New developments only showing in my weather app as of this morning but something to watch as it approaches. https://darksky.net

Within several hours of a major snow/ice event, the main highways (like either 9 or 52 into Decorah) are usually clear.

I've got a layered down ski jacket I plan to dust off and put to good use. If you see a shivering rando, that will be me!

That's a wildly different forecast than the Weather Channel. Hope for the sake of those traveling it's wrong.

A good pair of Carhartts and a flask will do the trick.

Since your post, have you heard anything about a bottle share at the Super 8 on Thursday? A couple friends and I are staying there and are down for a share.

Heading up to Decorah and staying Friday night. 4 of us are going from KY, only one had a ticket. Was looking at options to get a pour of Assassin as we missed out on the release tix. From what I can tell our only options would be lining up at T-Bock's before 7am opening or lucking into a pour maybe at Pulpit Rock. Is there any option I'm missing or someone could let me know about? Thanks in advance

Pulpit has former TG employees and I don't think they've ever had TG on tap so I wouldn't bet on it. What they do have is amazing brews, definitely check them out.

IMO, some of these places sold tickets for just enough to fill a keg. Make friends with the bartender, tip well and try to get lucky just before the keg blows to get a pour.

I know it hasn't been announced but one would think at 4:30 when brewery opens there's bound to be some on draft. Could completely be wrong, but I would think it's a possibility. Maybe they'll say something the next couple of days.
