I stopped buying Lagunitas because the date is almost impossible to see. I can deal with a Julian date, problem is I can't see it!

Sounds good and I'll buy you one in return! We used to always sit out on the patio because it's dog friendly (we have a tiny Pomeranian who hates being home alone)...we were there so often, perhaps I've talked to you before and didn't even know it haha.

Anyway I don't want to dilute this thread by going off topic. Keep in touch, sir!

Julian code easy to read. 351 6 is December 17, 2016. Pretty fresh hop stopped.[IMG]

Damn, just look at that. What beer is that if you don't mind me asking?

The brewer hasn't replied to my email, however my local shops all contend they have discontinued it.

All this Julian code whining, granted under certain lighting conditions it's hard to read but seriously.
If fresh beer means that much to you it's not that hard to find and figure out/geusstimate how old it is before purchasing said beer.

Your research states fresh beer is better yes? A little research and you can decipher Julian code

BTW I love many of the Lagunitas brews regardless of cost and agree that they "kick ass"

unfortunately this is me. maybe what ever that hop or yeast or the combo of all, i'm allergic to or something? Highwestified has enough over it for me to not be hypersensitive to, but most Lagunitas beers, i can smell from a distance, blindfolded & identify the brewer. that could be a good thing but for some reason that aroma & somewhat homogenized profile are turn-offs for me.

New Dogtown is still available. Just saw it. Also, I am in Central PA and all of the Lagunitas were fresh besides New Dogtown. It was from July.

Maybe the reason there was no fresh New Dogtown is because in the August (or so) timeframe they stopped making this brand of beer?

    Cheers!

This is true but how hard would it be for a company like lagunitas to change the format, the color of the ink or print it on the label? They changed the format for BY, why not just do the same across the lineup?

Still available is not the same as still being brewed.

Jason, have there been any Lagunitas press releases or announcements (e.g., http://beerstreetjournal.com/ ) on the fact that New Dogtown is discontinued?

    Cheers!

I just saw Maximus with a Julian date of 306 (Nov 1) so happily grabbed a sixer. Close enough . Will report back on how it is.

Def. be easier without Julian code. I'm not familiar with changes like these, but maybe it would be a hit financially? I have no idea.

Not that I have found. The brewery won't confirm or deny, but the beer is mysteriously absent from Colorado bottle shop doors.

Tilting the bottle right in front of an "eye of God"-bright bright light certainly helps things.

Frankly I don't care if a date is Julian or Americanized, I just wish they'd freaking use white or yellow ink if it's a brown bottle.

    Me too!!

I fell like a fool taking a bottle from a 6-pack on the shelf and taking it over to a light source (fluorescent light near a cooler or somewhere else).

Black ink on a brown bottle is nuts. And I am not going to buy into an argument that black ink is cheaper than yellow ink. The brewery really should make things 'better' for their customers (unless they would prefer we not pay attention to this detail).

    Cheers!
