BCBS is a game changer for me. It's really all I want at this point. Get your hands on a 2011 BCBS 12oz for a good introduction. Let it warm to room temp and open it. After this experience, you may find yourself trading for every year, every variant. It's a disease.

Almost everything Avery. They really know their strong ales, so they have tons of them.

I'm confused. What's the theme, here, high-alcohol beers?

Yes, hence the phrase "Strong Ales" fit for a king

Sorry, the "fit for a king" line had me thinking you wanted them to be regally-named or something. At first I thought you wanted just strong ales, but now I see you just want high ABV beers.

First off, I'm wondering what the difference between "Strong ales" and "high abv" is. But just so you're on the same page as I was when I got this started, I'm looking for the best, high quality strong beers in everyone's opinion. So to that end, what are some of your favorite strong beers?

Chimay Blue is a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. It is also a world-class benchmark for great beer.

Sorry, hope I'm not coming off as antagonistic. Strong ale is its own style (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/style/78), though sometimes they can be similar to some of the beers you've described above.

For me, there are just too many high-ABV beers for me to pin down my favorites as far as their strength is concerned. It's much easier for me to say, "These are my favorite stouts," or "These are my favorite barleywines."

    Stouts

    Founders KBS
    Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout
    Old Rasputin
    Weyerbacher Heresy
    Firestone Walker Parabola
    Bell's Expedition

    Barleywines

    Victory Old Horizontal
North Coast Stock Ale (technically an old ale)

Baltic Porters (this is one of my favorite styles)

    Smuttynose Baltic Porter
Baltika #6 (Not the best-rated, but just has character to me & epitomizes the style)
    Sinebrychoff Porter

No worries. In fact, I wound up thinking the same thing as I wrote my response, hoping it didn't come across as snarky. Too bad you can't see tone of voice in a chat room or thread posting, huh?

I'm actually enjoying two of my favorites tonight: Great Lakes Nosferatu and Brooklyn Black Chocolate stout.

Since you're way up north I'll stick what I perceive to be widely available beers:
    Old Rasputin
    Sierra Bigfoot
    Dogfish Palo Santo
    Chimay Blue
    Ommegang Three Philosophers
