Never had any of them, but if it's anything like J.W. Lees, I'll love it!

BTW that AleSmith line-up looks and sounds awesome.

While good, the bourbon barrel one is much better from my perspective. It comes across as a bit harsh due to the hops I guess. The barrel aging mellows it out quite a bit. That is if this is indeed the base beer for the barrel aged one which it certainly tastes like it might be.

My wife said I gained weight at that time. I definitely have had weight gain over the years from beer, but I can't say if it was worse at that point.

I think the cloudiness of the new Y2K was a case of chill haze.

You da man, zid. Just saw this thread. This is a great idea, but I'd go for double IPAs or coffee imperial stouts. What did you think of Uinta's Anniversary Barleywine?

I've had many vintage's fresh and with a few years on them of Uinta's Anniversary Barleywine, very nice barleywine. Would have been nice to have it on tap though, but that's Utah for ya.

    Cheers!

I thought it was a great beer. My biggest problem with it is how bad Uinta's presence is in my area. I have some blind tasting posts coming up and I would have loved to have included that beer in them. Cheers.

They didn't. NY. I should add that every bottled beer I've had from them has been awesome but I haven't had many. I've found every draught beer to be undrinkable, but these were rarer beers or variations rather than flagships and I haven't had many of those either. I could have been in an unforgiving mood. Regardless, I think their beers are a special treat.

The Y2K I had was clear as a bell. I do keep my beer in a cool basement room though, not the frig.

Good to know. I think at some point, I am going to try reading this thread since I am thinking there are some good barleywine reviews on here. It's a lot to read.

The reason I asked is because I saw a case of it last Spring for $19.99 at the local distributor. They were getting rid of it. Was going to get it, but got a case of Goose Island's The Muddy for the same price not too long before. Didn't want too many high ABV beers. Stupid, I know.

Recently I took a chance and purchased a bottle of Alesmith Decadence – Olde Ale version – without realizing the vintage (no date on bottle or foil). Found out when I got home that it's circa 2010! Looking forward to drinking it...with some trepidation. Might contribute a review here whenever it is that I partake.

It will be only the second Alesmith brew I've had, the other being the wee heavy back in 2011, which I recall being revalatory at that early point in my craft beer journey.

Have had HOTD Adam and Fred once each, both around 4 years ago. I remember both being very enjoyable. Will have to revisit if I run across any.

The only wheatwine I've had was Smuttynose's. Enjoyed that one a lot too.

    Another great thread. Thanks.

    Harpoon Barleywine

I think this is a new beer from Harpoon. This is a bourbon barrel aged beer. I always find it odd when breweries don't flaunt this info on the label. The front label says that it is just "barrel aged," but you can find the word "bourbon" buried deep in the description on the back. This is a 12% "American barley wine." This beer is much better at room temp than straight from the fridge, but it still is a cacophony of flavors no matter what the temp (is that a zidism @TongoRad ? ) This beer is hoppy, it's malty sweet, the alcohol is very present (but not bad considering the 12%), and the wood flavors are huge. Everything is just competing against everything else and nobody wins. It's uninviting.

This one goes out to @utopiajane
I really enjoyed this beer. It goes down so easy. It's sweet. There's a malt complexity that keeps things interesting. It's characterful without being overbearing. It has a great smooth feel.

Haha, yeah, I'd say so. But in the future just let them flow more freely .

    Middle Ages Double Wench

This one has a worse name and label when compared to Druid Fluid (yeah, that's actually possible), and the beer inside doesn't help things. I certainly preferred Druid Fluid to this. It's unpleasantly hoppy and there was nothing about it that made me want more. It's classified here as an American strong ale.

I loved this beer and if you will permit me to post my review. I have a barleywine I am waiting to try. Perhaps today we can make it a Two Beer Sunday!

I have not tried this one and i think the reason is that they do not date any of the bottles. In fact, you would like their beast bitter I am sure of it. They also make a very roasty stout. It's not a sweet syrupy chocolate milkshakey thing. It's a good bitter stout called dragonslayer. =)
