Assassin/KBBS day 2017...

Forecast changed since then, though not sure the subzero temps all day are much better. Snow due in Thursday. Hope it improves, would hate for beer so special to freeze outside/in cars.

 

I think it's certainly possible. "Bound to be" is a bit strong though. It's a tiny facility that'll be very busy (after an extra long day for TG) even if they don't have it on tap. There is simply nowhere to put the crowd for an announced Assassin tapping on a frigid day. They've already promised 5 kegs (not including the two already tapped) and winners got 2 bottles if they want to taste it. I think it might happen, but it makes perfect sense if they don't.

 

Does anyone know if backpacks were/are allowed at MD release?

 

Yes, I wore a backpack in at MD day both years. No issue at all.

Is the ABV in those beers high enough to withstand that cold? I know that the more alcohol, the lower the freezing point but I don't know where those thresholds exist.

 

I had a few 13% stouts shipped into Wyoming when it was -20 a few weeks back. He put in extras that were relatively low ABV as well and everything made it. Slushy but no bombs. Styrofoam shippers and copious amounts of bubble wrap are great insulators.

 

Thanks! Looks like Friday has been upgraded to a high of 11 and low of 7, so if those beers can handle -20, I'd think Assassin and KBS will be able to handle that. Looks to be warming into Saturday as well, so that should help.

Granted, we're talking about an Iowa forecast here too. It should change about 10 times between now and Friday.

I got an email with the bottle list both vanilla kbbs and vanilla assassin were on it but you could only choose one of the two.

 

I can no longer tell if people are joking or not.

 

So bring a bunch of extra cash just in case for those who are asking.

Boxed set ($200) + extra glasses ($30) + t-shirt ($20) + extra beers

So even if the extra beers were $50 each, $450 seems like a safe bet to guarantee everything there.

Guys, dexshell bamboo socks on amazon. They will save your toes this weekend. I don't forsee long waits outside unless you're going to T Bocks for the tapping or unless TGB announces a very limited amount of rare bottles for sale during each release window.
