FYI - Forbidden Root released bottles of Snoochie Boochie at their brewery today. I had it from a growler over the weekend. Good stuff, tastes similar to the style, though it's kind of red for what I'd expect. I liked their Snooze Juice in the NE style a little better.

    My top 4:
    RAM Juicy
Marz NE MDW ChiPA (tap version)
    Transient Juice is Loose
    RAM hopslush

All of the other NEIPAs from Chi that I had were notches below those 4, either because of hop preference or execution.

The only major beers mentioned in this thread that I haven't had are the mikerphone IPAs. Hoping to correct that when they open the taproom in 2017.

I've also traded for many treeehouse/trillium/tired hands/other half. The four beers mentioned above are on the same level as the regular offerings from those east coast breweries in my book.

    Cheers

It seems Hailstorm sent out more of the 12/21 batch of Stratus, for anybody who wasn't able to grab some the first time around. The Binny's I frequent had a few cases, and The Beer Cellar has a ton of it - although he said that he expects it to sell out in a day or two. Just an FYI

I think the bottle version is slightly truer to the "NE IPA" style in that it's a little more full an less bitter. Both versions I've had have been excellent in terms of both the feel and the forwardness of the hops (which is something I've mentioned is sometimes lacking). Definitely an excellent effort by Marz.

Where is the haze in that photo?

The beer itself is actually pretty hazy (you can't see the Coke logo behind my glass for a reason), but it's way more brown-orange than I'm used to for the style. It's especially interesting because the 1st batch (the tap-only one) was very orange-juice colored.

Snoochie Boochies by Forbidden Root. Do it.

Apparently Alter Brewing will have a NE style IPA at their anniversary party. And then a peach version of that IPA.

You know you have a lot of work to do as a brewery when people start lumping them all together... Alter? No Noon Whistle. Noon Whistle? You mean Dovetail? No, no, maybe it was Windmill? Were they near Chicago? I stopped keeping track after the 4th wave of breweries.

Or maybe the guy just confused two breweries. It's not the first time that's happened.

Plus, you said yourself that it was you who stopped paying attention to the breweries. Seems like a personal problem. Not any fault of Noon Whistle

I doubt people are confusing Pipeworks and Half Acre...

I don't know if this counts as confusing the two, but a few weeks ago I was looking for Deth's Tar in the Pipeworks section at my local Binny's...until I remembered that it's a Revolution brew. Do brain farts count as confusing the two?

I also don't have time to listen to the whole thing, but this podcast does a good job of advertising how different palates are. One of the guys can't pick up anything but Mosaic in Mdw NE Chi PA, and I got a lot of citra. Haven't had Morning Fog, but two votes for JIL at #1 and 2 votes for MDW in the top 3 is something I can get behind.

Too bad GB1 wasn't in this taste test; Reply Hazy is good, but I had much more consistently excellent cans of GB1.

Who brings an banana to an apple tasting? Probably the same people who puts a pale ale up against a line-up of DIPAs...Guess they couldn't find Juice Pants?

Juice Pants is an IPA, too, so that doesn't help all that much.

My guess is they only wanted to do one beer for each brewery

I'm guessing he mentioned Juice Pants because it's actually "NE style". Son of Juice, not so much
