I understand that sentiment. I agree with it to some degree. But we don't think going to Decorah is anything other than another half day or so like so many others. No big deal. For many of the actual winners, it's a big undertaking. I don't care because they volunteered to go, but TG probably does. Given that, the fact the taproom is closed is a pretty big deal. The allotment should be enough for overwhelmingly positive feedback, but it's probably not so a big surprise should help seal the deal.

I might be petty because I didn't get an Assassin ticket, but I agree. It's like they get a cake and another cake AND they get to eat it too. Doesn't seem too fair, but beer releases aren't always about fairness.

It is a big undertaking, but they're already getting beer with a street value likely in excess of 2 grand.

You mean lame games like attracting people from all over the country to visit your community, spend lots of money, give kegs of beer to other local establishments to draw in hundreds or thousands of people to them that they could easily keep for themselves, encouraging attendees to avail themselves of the local restaurants and businesses while in town? I can see why you're so pissed about the whales and all, totally reasonable.

No, I mean games like mysterious tweets, withholding info, mysterious messages/scavenger hunt on their website, etc all designed to tease the masses who would really like to try some of their barrel aged stouts.

I don't think they "gave" the local bars those kegs. They're selling them like they would for any other keg. As far as drawing people into decorah and what it does for the local businesses, that's great, but it doesn't change the fact that their marketing practices are really a pain in the rear for those who would just like to be able to try/share some of their big beers. I'm on the verge of just saying "F it" for TG. I'd still road trip to Decorah, but for Pulpit Rock. I greatly prefer their straightforward approach to things.

Guys I give it close to a 0% chance that there's a vanilla assassin involved with this release. I can't imagine them sweetening the deal with something even more rare than what they're already releasing. They could give something like that it's own release and charge $100+ per bottle if they wanted to.

I'm still holding out hope for a chance to buy MD or Chainsmoker as one of the additional purchases, but would be totally happy with whatever they decide to offer.

Yeah but why are you entitled to try those beers? I'm not trying to flame you, but I think your exact mindset is what craft beer has turned into and what's wrong with it. People become entitled and think they deserve a taste or pint of any beer released by their local/favorite brewery.

Can you guys recommend any good bottle shops in Minneapolis in terms of good selection for best local craft? Or between Decorah and MSP?

I'm not saying I "deserve" it. I'm just saying that they tweet stuff about wanting to make as many people happy as possible, but adding another big beer to this lottery just makes a smaller subset even happier.

If they want to do it, it's certainly their prerogative. But if they go that way, they'll likely further alienate a larger portion of their customers. There's simply little reason to do it given those traveling great distances are already getting a huge dose of whales that that they deemed worth the trip for them as it is. After all, they entered the lottery before having any inkling there'd possibly be another whale in the mix.

Heck, the whole process of being coy about what other beers will be available for purchase is just another example of their games.

Sounds you are just bitter about being left out. This is about as fair and well-run a lottery as I have seen. Extremely informative, well controlled. The extra bottles should just be a nice surprise. PR does not have 15,000 people jumping at the opportunity to pay $200 for 3 bottles of their beer, so not a good comparison. Hoping to stopping by there too, though, great place. I assume you will be the guy scowling at everyone from the corner?

And I highly doubt they have had 4000+ bottles just set aside for two months for this, they're more likely scrambling to get enough stuff bottled and ready for the event.

Elevated, Ale Jail, Zipps, France 44, Heritage.

Are you flying into MSP? Elevated and Ale Jail are relatively close to one another and not too far from the airport. If you are in that area Falls Liquor is worth a stop as well and very close to Elevated.

Yup, flying there and have a hotel across the street. Thank you very much, I will surely check out a couple of those.

My recommendation would be for France 44 or South Lyndale. Both will have the latest local releases and tons of other goodies. If your dig hops check out Sisyphus's new beer The First Beer We Distributed. Pretty solid NE style IPA.

    I think you're mistaken.

You seem to think i'm upset with lottery. I am fine with this lottery (nice hyperbole though). I agree that it was done well and as fairly as can be expected. That's completely independent of my issue with the "games" which has been a long term annoyance of mine and pretty much all the friends I share beer with. We endure it because it's that or give up completely on TG.

I would be unhappy with them if they tack on another whale to this release, however.

I will be at Pulpit happily enjoying some great beers with my friends...then also to GoodFellas and The Safe House.

F44 and SL are on the other end of town so might not be the best option unless you have tons of extra time. Elevated received that Sisyhus beer too (but it could very well be sold out soon). You could also hit Blue Max but it is a little out of your way when you head to Decorah. Andy's in Rochester might be worth stopping in to. Also Forager in Rochester is worth a phone call to see what crowlers they have for sale to go. Not sure what day you are flying back but remember no sale of beer from liquor stores on Sunday in MN.
Lastly, there is a separate thread in the Midwest forum called TC bottle hunt that could be useful.
