how does one get certified as a lurker? is there a test? id like to take it to see if id pass. if i did pass, id want a badge.

 

Every year, there is the Great American Lurkals Rascal Race held in mechanicsburgvilletown, PA. The contest begins by getting on an old man's lawn. One he hollers "Get off my lawn!" you jump on his rascal and try to race to his handicapped access minivan before he can retrieve his backup rascal and get to you to whack you on the forehead with this cane. If he whacks you on the forehead with his cane, he then loads thousands of helium balloons in his house and flies his home to Paradise Falls so he isn't put in an old folks home. All the while, he is terrorized by a roundish boy scout who likes chocolate and horrifically large birds. Yes, that is the Great American Lurkals Rascal Race and how you get certified as a lurkal.

Planning on it. I'd love to do the same weekend (labor day forward), but haven't got that far down the road. Y'all set date yet?

 

No date set yet. We have multiple destination weddings to attend this year, really cutting into vacation time and budget. Wife informed me she still wants to go to SC and preferably Labor Day forward like last year. Yet to be determined how I make that happen.

Let's start to see some anti-hoarding Thursday VBS!

 

So I got a little lucky here -- I pulled out my anti-hoarding beer from my cellar, and was lucky that the glass I decided to use happened to be upstairs in the kitchen. Because when I opened it, it was a massive gusher that I was able to quickly move to the sink. I did have to wipe up the kitchen counter (including the open yopener drawer) and floor, but no terrible mess. At least until my wife comes home and notices the smell. Unless she attributes it to my weekend brewing, but I doubt I'll be that lucky.

But anyway, I have only taken a few sips of this, and am really quite pleasantly surprised. This is a style that's hit or miss for me, and it's old (at least 2 years, I think) -- but it's really good -- so I got lucky with a beer that excited me when I first bought it, but never struck me as the one I wanted to drink on any particularly day.



I also got a cool new bottle cap to give to a guy I know who collects them. Now I'm deciding which one of you guys was the model for the label (I only know what about half of you look like, and still have a pretty long list of candidates). And I've moved Against the Grain up on my list of EBF target breweries (yes, it's a tab in my spreadsheet).

 

Okay I dug this out of the cellar to see if some time had mellowed out the Tequila Barrel aging and after about 6 months on this one there is a noticeable difference and a much smoother finish without the burn.
