Is announcing 2 hours before open really "hyping it up"?

I hope not... their sours > their IPAs.

I wouldn't say so either. They actually announced it at 1:25PM yesterday, which was quite early. They normally post around 2pm-230pm, IIRC.

Don't think it gets around law, I think it is just a way to maxxxx profitzzzz. People are more willing to pay $7/spot to win a 4-pack valued at $100 than they are willing to outright pay the $100 the guy selling/raffling is trying to get.

2.5 hours isn't hyping it up by my book either.

How early did Noble announce the 24k release and how bad was that line?

I'd like to have a conversation with someone who thinks a 4-pack of IPA is worth $100

I think at least a week in advance.

I'm getting more and more grateful that there isn't a "san diego treehouse" brewery.

I really do hope Monkish just starts brewing higher volume overall - so it isn't so hard to get their beer...

    Free market, amirite?

Who is to blame - those that create the demand or those that meet it?

I can only imagine that they want to expand as much as we want them to. It takes time.

I'm not looking to blame anyone, the market is what it is.... I'd just love to pick the brain of someone who thinks $100 is worth it.

    Filthy rich? Bored? Tickers?

Didn't mean to imply you were looking to blame, it was intended to be rhetorical.

On the seller's side, I'm going with "opportunist". On the buyer's side, I'm sure its a combination of FOMO and a need to the tick the box. I would think (or at least hope) that these people are "filthy rich" enough to have discretionary cash after taking care of their needs, investing in their retirement, etc.

Every factor was brought up or mentioned here in the past. I know of a place (local) that is considering can sales and releases. I think they are thinking more on the lines of their loyal customers. Not sure what direction they will be going when that time comes. I don't think they will have the attention like Monk has with all the hype and BS post here. But if that time comes hopefully they will think about their loyal customers instead of the hype attention. They are monitoring this thread closely. There's one thing when it comes to getting your name out all over the craft world and then there is another when you care about your product that you put out to the public. I'm not saying Henry doesn't care what or how he puts his product out. I'm sure he cares a lot. Maybe he likes all the attention. Others might care how they go about getting their stuff out to the customers. I've given up on trying to get Monks latest releases > cans or growlers. There's no hype at Riip. Just good advertisement and good beer. It looks like Nobles is the next hype train here. We shall see if others follow the hype train.....or not.

Just my thoughts......and most of you probably don't give a sh!te one way or another.

    It's only BEER.

All fair points - my only point was that there are constraints that cause growing pains for breweries as small as Monkish, especially when they gain the same level of attention that Monkish has.

A standard lease is 5-years and they are heading into their 4th year if I am not mistaken. I'm sure they want to expand/produce more just as much as we want them to expand/produce more. But, there are also other factors (i.e. lease on existing spot, cold storage space) that impact how a brewery does business or chooses to grow.

Yea but Noble didn't spend 5 years saying they'll never do an IPA, then announce canned ones on April Fools Day, and have it be hazy too. They've just established the hype where it's almost self serving. People line up in anticipation of a release now regardless of social media.

If Noble does a hazy release on the frequency Monkish does and the same [perceived] value of the haze remains, maybe they'll start having preannounce lines too.

Is there actual proof of someone buying a $90 or $100/4pack??

I've also heard of folks hiring people on taskrabbit to wait in line, but, and ship beer to them.

Funny you mention this..I saw on a post that someone is selling last Monkish 4pk (not biggiebiggiebiggie) for $90 or else $100 shipped, it lasted maybe 5 minutes.
