following up on this question... i'm also headed to Chapel Hill next month. Is there anywhere that I can get Burial (on tap or cans)?

    thanks.

Steel String's hoppy stuff has gotten to be pretty darn good I'd say.

From what I've seen, you might have a chance at Beer Study?

That and Cryin Holy are pretty solid IMO. Nothing mind blowing, but as good or better than anything in the area that's not Bond Brothers.

High Branch is kid friendly. And I really enjoyed their hazy style IPA they had on tap at the time, Promise Ring I believe was the name. It looks like they have at least one hazy IPA on tap at all times. Only issue is when I went, they weren't filling growlers of it at the time. Also, as a bonus, across the parking lot is Cabarrus Brewing Company, which has some decent to good beer as well, including a couple good IPA's (not the hazy style though). They are also kid friendly, and actually have quite a few games/activities set up for children.

Yeah, Beer Study pretty much always gets whatever Burial cans get distributed, but some of them disappear pretty quickly.

Thanks. I'll definitely be stopping in there. Is there anywhere in Chapel Hill (or close by) you'd recommend for a lunch/dinner that would possibly have it on tap?

Not sure about that one. There are a few joints around town that maintain decent tap lists (Tyler's, Milltown, etc.) but I'm not sure if I've ever seen Burial at those places.

Disclaimer: The two places I named are in Carrboro.

You could always do what many others do and just grab burgers at Al's and walk next door to Beer Study to eat. That is, if you don't mind eating around dogs.

This is the greatest thing you can do in Chapel Hill. I drive from Raleigh to do this. You should do this afroskully.

Get Al's sauce to dip your fries into as well.

I know I've probably already mentioned it, but Foothills Double Simcoe (Hop of the Month December) is delicious. I think it tastes similar to Hubris, is just as good and is less than half the price.

This beer is still on draft at foothills. Had some Wed before Wake UNC game! It should be in the regular rotation!

+1 to this and I'll add that going half and half fries is a pro move. 1/2 regular and 1/2 sweet potato.

Maybe I need to give the sweet potato fries another shot, theres are literally the only ones I've disliked. Which is weird.

Has anyone had Burial Hawkbill IPA? Thoughts?

Just grabbed some Trophy Cloud Surfer. Pretty good, but a far cry from a true NE-style IPA (as it claims to be). I'm on the hunt for any true examples of the style made here locally, and so far am coming up woefully short. Burial/OH "Wallet/Juice Bar" was just okay. Wicked Weed Freak of Nature was good for a west coast style, but not really anything special. Lynwood didn't have anything of this kind.

I've heard Bond Brothers has a DIPA that comes close, but haven't made it out there yet.

Any others come to mind? There's such a dearth of this wildly popular style I'm seriously considering brewing my own and starting a nano-brewery.

I wasn't a big fan of Juice Bar either, but some of the other Burial ones have been pretty hazetastic. Look for Surf Wax when it drops next week again, that one was great last time.

Bond Bros has made a couple of batches that were pretty northeasty (the 1st batch of Long Stride in particular). Not every one is, but they're all really good just in general.

Other than those, Heist in Charlotte is going to be your other one in the state doing that style of IPA well on a consistent basis. And I'll also give a shout out to Legion for Juicy Jay, just had that this weekend and it was legit.

Try bandwagon by four saints or any of the heist IPAs. I think the point to the style is more the juicy IPA than the haze.
