Don't snooze on Mindshaft Gap either! Easily one of my personal favs from Rev's history.

These release event's they've put on for Deth's Tar/Café Deth and now Straight Jacket sound like a good time, especially with the variants. I've never been a big fan of Revolution's BA offerings, but I may have to check one of these out sometime.

The Deth's Tar release was a bit of a shitshow (almost no open seats at 5pm, long lines for food and drink), but 1) they let you order multiple pours at once (fantastic, as long as you don't miss out ) and 2) free food is obviously going to be popular.

I like Deth's Tar; I don't love it. But the release is about the sum total to me; you go there if you have any interest in either the base beer or the variants. The variants last time were delicious, and totally worth the trip over there.

Really want to go to get a Cafe Deth and a Straight Jacket but hearing how shitty the deths tar release ran I may steer clear.

i don't love most of Rev's other BA offerings but I think SJ a true gem for the barleywine folks. I miss the early days when it would be stacked at Trader Joes for six months but it's still easy enough to get when the release ends up a shitshow. Would love to grab one of those 2012 bottles as well, mine are all long gone

The Cafe/Deth release was FAAARRRR from shitty! Sure there are lines and people waiting for pours. That's what happens with a BA release these days. But Rev does it right, grab a pour or two, some bottles and absolutely crush whatever food they are serving!!

If you go at like...4 with a friend or two (to get a spot at a table), I'd imagine you'll have a great time. Like I mentioned, the beer line is long, but you can order multiple beers (I'm pretty sure I saw people order 4 at a time, which should hold you over a little while ), so in some ways, the line is actually pretty quick (10 minute line for 2-4 beers is essentially a 3-5 minute line).

Had a christmas tasting of BA beers. Last years Deth's Tar beat out everything on the table.

Sad I have not gotten any this year. Random trip to Chicago Next week?:astonished: Maybe

This is the first of the Rev-BA releases that I am tempted to go to. SJ is my favorite of their BA offerings, and that Mindshift Gap sounds incredible. Im tempted to think this release won't be nearly as bad as Deth's Tar since its for a Barleywine and not a BA stout ...

Need I remind you that this is a Chicago beer event, and a BA one at that. Not to mention there's free food involved AND very limited BA variants.

I'm not saying it's going to be bad, but I would definitely assume it will be if I were you.

Yea ... who am I kidding? I just texted my buddy over at Rev what I said and he laughed at me.

There is absolutely no way it will be as bad as Deths Tar. Straight Jacket has always sat around for a bit. This isn't a BA stout release. Barleywines don't get nearly as hyped as stouts in these parts, thank god.

That's true, I just don't know that "not as bad" will turn out to mean "not bad at all."

My basic point is that every single time I've assumed an event in Chicago wouldn't be bad, it was awful, so I wouldn't go in assuming there will only be 25 people at the event.

To be fair, even the Deth's Tar event wasn't that bad once a couple variants kicked (Nitro Vanilla Cocoa Nib Deth's Tar & Deth's Tar aged for 21 months in Old Forrester barrels). A little bit after that you could pretty much walk around freely and get anything on tap fairly quickly

Heck, the Deth by Cherries was still around for over a week after the event.

Not saying it won't be more packed than usual there, but I honestly can't see it being ass2elbow or anything.

    Two things:
    1) VSOD did not kick that night - lasted well into next night. Only nitro kicked.
    2) I totally agree with your assessment beyond that- once the initial 5pm line was served, it was a smooth time all in all.

My mistake. I know the nitro kicked and I seem to remember the VSOD was scratched off on the board too..however I may have been there later than I initially remembered
