It is funny because the pic shows properly on my IPAD (where the pic was taken) but upside down on my desktop.

Awesome, looking forward to chugging mine, and following it up with Maalox.

I had Prop '16 at GI Clybourne tasting and it wasn't quite for me. It was overly smokey, with loads of peppers. Was part of the decision to trade away most of my bottles. I still have 1 left so maybe I'll try it out at some point in the near future. I just wonder why the wild inconsistency in bottles vs non bottles? Or is it all palate related and what different people pick out?

Probably a combo of everything you just mentioned.

People have mentioned that the Prop on tap at different events has differed wildly in taste, so it may partially be that. I didn't get much smokiness when I had it yesterday, but I also didn't let the beer fully warm up, so it's possible I missed it.

However, palates are really strange. You sometimes can't tell how much your palate is being affected until you start drinking something you know, and realize it tastes much different than usual. I've had days where a pretty mediocre bourbon tastes like it's top shelf, and days where top shelf bourbon tastes like everything else. I revisit the same bottles other times, and the taste is completely different.

Like Bowzer mentioned, it's probably a little of everything when it comes to your experience with the beer. If you're not tasting it on a super clean palate each time, you may have an altered experience, and certainly it sounds like there's been something weird going on with the different batches.

To be safe, your best bet is to open your bottle with a friend who likes spicy beers (if possible). That way even if you hate it, you can be the guy that shared that whale with 'em (and hell, make them bring something comparable to taste, too!).

Throw me in the group that really enjoyed Prop 16 when I had it on tap (Local Option on Black Friday). I didn't get any smoke or maple, basically just BCBS with a fair amount of heat (I like spice so it was fine, but I can see it being too hot for some).

I let it sit a bit too, I drank about half cold and drank something else before finishing it.

Had it at Jackson last night and found it to be a nice mix of all the things it claims it is. Got a nice smokey-chocolate flavor. A bit of burn and just a touch of Maple sweetness. Its definitely not one of my favorites but I enjoy it and think it is well executed.

Also a good summary of my experience right now with the bottle.

Prop has been consistent for me each time I've had it except for FOBAB (and it may not have been that different at FOBAB, but just a shock to my palate). I've had it on tap a couple times and from bottle a couple times since then and they've pretty much all been the same experience. Good amount of chocolate, along with some smoke and heat from the pepper. I shared one with a buddy who loved it, and shared one with my brother who wasn't as big of a fan. It's not really my preferred style, and hope that the smoke/heat dies down some, as I've still got some bottles. The heat just stays with me too much at this point, but I've come to learn my palate's sensitivity to heat from peppers is a bit lower than others.

    See, it
See? It's the opposite for me...my palate gravitates towards spice/heat and that is why I enjoy it.

FYI all, per Beermenus, LP Binny's has Vanilla Rye in their tasting room.

    Go forth and conquer!

Did anyone go to Dark Horse last night for the tapping? I really had to stop myself from going since it's just a few blocks away, but I'm trying to control beer spending. I wondered how long stuff lasted.
