What style of beer do you find most quaffable?

I can really guzzle a cold IPA or an American Wheat Ale on a hot summer day. But for me the most quaffable style is a porter. Black Butte in particular. Those beers are smooth as silk, low carbonation, with a hint of chocolate flavor, and go down so easy at about 50 degrees on a cold winter night. I think it is the body and temperature that makes it so drinkable.

    What's yours?

Mild. Low carbonation ,tasty but not overpowering. What is termed a "moreish" beer, one you can drink pint after pint after pint without tiring of it. Each pint tastes better than the one before. No other beer style comes close.

It really depends on how thirsty I am.

My homebrew Trappist Single or Blonde Ales come to mind.

Commercial beers? American Pale Ales (SNPA, 12th of Never, Pale 31, etc.).

I love a craft beer such as Prairie stouts or New England IPA as much as any BA member.
I'll be glad to say that a good old Guinness Draught nitro poored from a can is easy drinking any day!
That said I have none in my fridge, but that's what came to mind first.

I was actually just thinking about how Black Butte was definitely a good "I can have several of these in a row" beer earlier today. Also good when just having one, but it definitely lends itself to multiples I've found.

As for styles in general, Kolsch comes to mind immediately -- basically every Kolsch-style beer I've had in a decently fresh state was an "I want another one of these" beer. I guess that's a true-to-style trait, considering how they're traditionally served with "until you say to stop" refills. Witbiers seem like they'd be nice to have several of in a row, especially on a hot day (I was honestly surprised by how good and refreshing a plain ol' Shock Top seemed after an hour-long drive on a hot day with no AC this past summer... could've probably drank three or four but didn't want to empty my mom's fridge out entirely!) Pilsners and Oktoberfests, too -- seems like nearly every time I get a new one to try, I end up "trying" two whole bottles the first day they're in my fridge! That's one reason why I only buy every year's Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest in 12-packs now (started with a six of the 2015... went back for a 12 later.) The other reason, of course, is that it seems like the stores near me always have plenty of the 12-packs but not the six-packs.

I honestly think chugging started because of the kolsch. It's the only style I can drink with that kind of ease. For me it's the lagerbier. That's how you spell it. All one word.

Hefeweizens for me ... all that banana, absolutely no alcohol taste.

The topic interests me because I've noted over the past couple years that any time I take a gulp of any beer, the alcohol flavor explodes and overtakes all of the other flavor notes. Low ABV, session-style beers, milds, pils, blonde ales, kolsch ... whatever. Take a big gulp of anything and all I taste is medicinal alcohol.

Since noticing that trend, I've started gulp-testing everything just for fun, and right now I think the good hefe is the only one that passes. But I'll keep testing. :grinning::stuck_out_tongue:

Some of the answers I have seen posted make me wonder if I am the only one to have experienced cask mild. It's in a different class for quaffability.

I suspect, sir, that were we able to easily get it here done properly, many folks would answer that. My only experiences with it done well still stand in memory. So, indeed, you are a lucky minority on this USA dominated site.

To be truthful, finding cask mild is not all that easy here. I have two pubs which always keep in on pump and if it appears anywhere else I feel lucky.Except in May when it becomes easy to find.
Of course if I drink in the city I can find mild but I prefer small country pubs.

The answer is, of course, the New England-style IPA.

And not, I might add, your wimpy-ass 'session' IPA, either. I have achieved the requisite body mass to be able to 'session' anything between 6% to 8.5% pretty much indefinitely and, in case my primary-care physician reads this, no, I'm not proud of it and, yes, I'm going to stop - um, tomorrow.

How do you feel after 20 Imperial pints of it? Or are your sessions "wimpy -ass" ?

Good ol' American Pale. PseudoSue in any of her incarnations hits all the right notes for me.
