As I seldom fly, I've forgotten the establishments at the main terminal which offered "better beer". Maybe a Green Mill, or an outpost of a locals sportsbar chain -- Major's or Chammps?

Both Summit and August Schell had a presence, and most recently a retailer called "Local Brew Beer Gear".

But this next idea was definitely plucked from the "why didn't they think of it sooner" department:

" guests can enjoy beer tastings and classes hosted by brew masters and craft experts from around the state"

Really? People waiting to catch a flight will take classes? Seems like an odd idea (that single, narrow part of it). Other than that, this is a great idea. Now, we just need one or more to be for the general public (i.e. not just at the airport).

Arriving early to sample, even arranging departures around classes might catch on with some regular travelers.

It looks like there will also be a to-go section complete with a display cooler -- surely a draw for those who don't have time for a sit-down meal and/or a regularly scheduled class.

Yeah but you can't open it on a plane so you will have to take it with you are drink at your gate.

This will be less about MN locals and more about travel through MN. Denver, Portland, SD all have a good beer scene at airport.

So can anyone explain if we will really have a beer equivalent of Surdyk's where I can pass through security, buy a bottle/can of Minnesota beer, leave it closed, and take it on the plane as a carry-on with me to my destination? That's the game changer I think we're all looking for here, kind of like Portland's airport.

Is Surdyk's Flights still there? I heard they were booted from their space. I loved being able to grab a bottle of wine as a gift or later consumption from there.

Yes, at least for now. They had planned to close at the end of 2016 (article from last year), and I haven't read anything to the contrary.

Good news. From City Pages on upcoming MSP restaurants. Assuming we can buy those bottles to go!:

Lake Wine and Cheese: Uptown’s staple is about to be transformed into an airport favorite. Patrons can purchase bottles from the global wine selection or indulge in a glass and a small plate.

Where: Airport Mall. When: Jan. 23, 2017.

Imbibing at Stone Arch now, easily the best place I've found in MSP for solid craft. Love that it's MN-only at least for handle spots. Food was very good, I'll most definitely be back every trip the timing allows to try more of the menu. Employees say the sealed to-go crowler/growler option sounds unlikely...but times-are-a-changing.

Might as well had a Buffalo Wild Wings sign on it the few times I've checked out the handles...uninspired list for sure.
