hi everyone. the wife and i are heading to austin this weekend and are very excited. we dont have a ton planned other than:
    - jester king
    - franklin bbq (preordered lunch, a very big lunch)

any suggestions for food, beer, things to do that are baby friendly? we are staying downtown and will have a rental car.

I always recommend Pieous if you're going to JK. Short trip and life altering pastrami. Their beer is ridiculously priced, though.

You shouldn't call your wife a baby..

My good drinking buddies both have babies and toddlers and we've had no issues at any of the places mentioned, just be mindful of your fellow patrons and you should have a great time and no one will give you the stink eye, Austin is a cool laid back place for the most part. New places that opened up Lazarus and St. Elmo have a good amount of seating both indoors and out. Pinthouse is a must and Jester King is a given for out of towners. Pieous, while mind altering indeed and I highly recommend it for food, can be cramped (especially with a baby) and seating is very limited, just something to keep in mind. Enjoy your trip.

The current forecast says really nice weather for this weekend. Don't forget Live Oak if you like German styles. They have a pretty nice, big outdoor space and they make great beer. If you're looking for low stress (w/ a baby), then that's a good place.

I've never been to the south Pinthouse Pizza, but the Burnet Road one is pretty busy pretty frequently (because it's great). If you go around a mealtime or possibly during the NFL games this Sunday, it might be pretty busy. All the seating is on picnic tables. Just FYI. Your baby is absolutely welcome there and the place is kid-friendly overall, but sometimes it stressed me out a bit when I tried to take my kids there when they were younger and we had to battle for seating.

Rainey Street is also downtown and would be manageable in the daytime. It would probably be walkable if you're staying downtown. Banger's and Craft Pride are among the best beer bars in the city. They both have outdoor spaces. There are food trucks and a few restaurants around there too.

    Staying downtown...

    - Stop by "the flag store" - aka Hyde Park Market or East 1st Grocery on your way in to pick up a couple of choice bottles you can't get in CA for the hotel room.
    - Like sours - try Blue Owl - east side of downtown Austin
    - Headed to JK - stop by Hops and Grain or Independence on your way down/back.
-Pinthouse Pizza is a great local spot - "3rd" that
    - Try Easy Tiger downtown - but go for lunch with the kiddo.

Have fun... and let "us" know where you'll have the extra Franklins... we'll bring the beer.

Please do not stop by that business. They do not care about the beer, dates, hell, and love gouging just about anyone on "rare" beer. Just don't give them business.

Also, just about any brewery in Austin is kid friendly. I would have a harder time finding one not kid friendly these days. If you are going on a Saturday, Austin Beerworks maybe, just because of crowds and sometimes can be tough to get a table.

6 months. Probably too small to understand/enjoy the museum. Might still do that though, sounds like fun!

"6 months. Probably too small to understand/enjoy the museum."

possibly, still might be worth 30 or 45 mins. The 2nd floor has a big padded area where you can at least plop them down and they pick up some random stuff and lots of bright colored things around for them to gawk at, lol.

I'll cede I don't believe they even drink craft beer and one does have to pay attention to the dates on some of the offerings, but they do have a pretty good selection, some fairly rare stuff can be acquired there, and they're close to downtown.

Of course sunrise mini mart, witch craft, even Mueller HEB are better overall. It was a proximity recommendation.

I still want to know where the left overs from the 10 pound Franklin order are going to be (that is still their minimum to go order, right?).

Depending on when your Franklin's order is, I'm a huge fan of Banger's for Sunday Brunch (get there at 9:30 for the 10 am opening). There should be lots of kids there.

You have to go to the noble pig. Best sandwich in town imo. It's on the way to lake if you're headed that way.
