Dang. That Assassin Teku is incredible. Easily my favorite glass now. One solid piece of glass.

As I've said elsewhere, I'd 100% keep the first Assassin bottle and trade the other to someone who didn't have access to it. Not being greedy, just want to share the wealth. KBBS on the other hand would be tough not to sell. When people are offering $2k for a little 12oz bottle, that's a lot for a college guy.

And this mentality is a big part of what's ruining craft beer.

I don't know where beer sells on line, or how to find it for sale, but I heard guys this weekend saying that 2013 KBBS has gone for $4000 online and they expected $1500 for the new batch. Again, I haven't verified that, just repeating word-of-mouth.

That's a lot of money to a lot of people. I have a hard time shaming anyone for converting $200 into $1500 (or more) and still getting a couple bombers of great beer and some nice glasses out of the deal.

Free market economy. If someone wasn't crazy enough to literally spend thousands of dollars for 12 ounces of beer, no one would be selling it.

No, the people willing to pay exorbitant amounts of money for craft beer are ruining it.

It's hard not to think about the potential profit on KBBS (especially if you're interested in the secondary market). Really easy not to post it for sale though. Couldn't be easier, in fact.

Two way street. Takes one douchebag to throw money at it and one person who is more concerned with profit than morals/ethics/collateral damage to the scene as a whole. Neither person comes out looking good in my opinion.

have any of you sold anything for a profit before? did you sell a house for more than you bought it for? how come you didnt worry about the ethics and morals and about the '"scene". How come you didn't sell it for what you paid for it so others could enjoy it.

Kind of a stupid argument that is in unethical to sell beer for a profit but you can sell anything else for a profit.

FWIW I have no skin in this game, but people's "moral" arguments are laughable

This conversation about buying/selling in the secondary market is really beating a dead horse. It's not going to be stopped and will always happen with every big release.

In the meantime, I can't wait to crack my KBBS.

The thing is, supply, demand, and hype will always be a factor. It's just economics. People can be mad at others for selling beer all they want, but as long as there's a market, the beer will get sold. Sorry that I find it reasonable to sell a beer $1500+ when I'm still getting a lot out of the release experience. There will always be great beers out there to enjoy.

Now if it came with 2x KBBS, of course I'd crack the heck out of one.

I respect everyone's opinion, but I disagree. Now, I am keeping my bottle of kbbs and more than likely keeping both Assassins. I am more worried about my discipline to not drink them very soon when I've had a few too many and I'm within reach of my cellar. However, if someone is willing to pay over a thousand dollars for a beer, at what point is it irresponsible for someone to keep it if they're down on their luck with funds? I don't think this is a moral or ethical thing. As someone said above, it's a free market economy. I am keeping my beer because I want to drink awesome beer that I may not get a chance to try again. However, who am I to judge someone else on what they prioritize? If you say it is unfortunate because others would have appreciated the beer more than the individuals won the lottery and are selling, then pony up the money and buy a bottle. You don't value it as much as what they're selling it for? Well, someone is. We're back to free market stuff.

There are multiple ways to do rare releases and they all have their flaws. I'm fortunately not in a spot where I am thinking about turning any sort of profit for the beer, but there are some large figures being thrown around for a 12 oz beer. If I was in a tough spot and could take care of some bills for my family, then I'd sell the hell out of it.

If you are down on your luck shouldn't be attending $200 beer releases. Point is these people only had intentions of selling.

IMO the only way to prevent resale is to have 1 pour per person only releases.

Of course, even that can backfire. I've heard stories from the TG staff about people trying to dump Term Oil or MD pours into growlers and getting busted for it.

When there's a subset of people who are willing to resort to unethical and insane means in order to acquire a product, someone will be willing to profit off their insanity.

The opportunity to profit AND get to try a world class beer would make something like this even more enticing.

You could probably sell off a bottle of Assassin for $500 or so and essentially get paid $300 to drink an Assassin and a KBBS. It's having your cake and eating it too.

I'd get rid of a bottle of Assassin and probably the KBBS as well if I was ever lucky enough to win the right to purchase. Wouldn't do it for cash though, I'd insist on beers in return and only because I'd rather try some other things based on my personal preferences.

Part of the appeal to an event like this is the experience of attending. That's what would draw me in. If I won, great. Now I can get some more beer out of the equation.

I like this as well. I got two bottles of Chainsmoker from the release. Drank the first one, wasn't a huge fan so instead of selling it, I traded it for a number of other beers including my favorite stout I've had the pleasure of drinking more than 2oz of: Smore Luv.

Regarding the comment on shouldn't be going to $200 release: lives change. I've known people who went from cushy 6 figure jobs to unemployed for a few years. You don't really know what goes on with everyone.

He mentioned a tough spot, not being down on your luck and not able to afford it. I am sure a lot of us have a bill or two that we could pay off or down for what KBBS is going for. I would be lying if I didn't think about selling the bottle, it is a lot of money and I think anyone would be crazy to at least not have the thought cross their mind.

It does suck that all some people wanted to do is get it to sell it when I look at it from a perspective of what I view this hobby being about. But unltimately, it is their beer and they can do whatever they want with it. To me, this hobby brings people together to have a good time while sharing tasty beer. I have met many awesome people through this hobby and there are some that are now close friends. I do loathe the second hand market and to an extent, trading. I think it is ruining this hobby for me, as it is making it harder and harder to get beer. I guess however, it is the nature of the beast and I cannot say that I am not apart of the problem with grabbing local beers with the sole intent to trade.
