That is really unfortunate... I mean, I'd be spending that $60 (and then some) on their beers but now there is an unpleasant taste left from the whole thing.

    C'est la vie.

It is odd they cant refund you for the Q1 package, but in their defense they did send more than 1 email to PS members upgrading to RS telling them to cancel their PS membership unless they want to renew it.

I am not suggesting it is a bad deal. If anything, it is a good deal which is why I joined PS to begin with and have since decided to upgrade to RS.

I'm sure the beer will be enjoyed, but it doesn't mean my disappointment at the situation evaporates.

Gotcha - must've missed or glossed over that communication.

Yes, I know the terms control. Generally . I am a lawyer.

But it's less about contract terms and more about good customer service for a pre-paying supporting member of your society. They could make it right. Bottles aren't going out for a couple months. They don't HAVE to keep that $60 at the expense of customer loyalty.

    ^ fair enough.

Personally, I think they have it backwards - people upgrading from PS to RS should be automatically removed from the PS auto-renewal and should have to re-enroll in PS if they want both benefits.

Perhaps I am simplifying it too much.

This - being legally entitled to keep the payment doesn't mean it is a good business or customer service decision.

Also, for the record, it is/was ultimately my responsibility and I'm the space cadet. Was just wishing they would be a bit more flexible in the customer service toward a member.

I think you are beating a dead horse.

Unfortunately you forgot to cancel your PS. It's a reoccurring charge unless you cancel. Nothing new about that. Sure, it would be great if it automatically cancelled. But it's your responsibility. Stuff happens, drink beer - be happy - let it go and you got to move on

Agreed on letting it go but it's not beating a dead horse. It's the first time this has came up and letting people know might prevent it in the future and maybe make them rethink their policy.

I think it's clear to most everyone in PS, or who have been, that it auto renews. I bought a Q4 PS last year for an extra BT, but I immediately canceled it as to not have an extra charge per quarter. It looks like you forgot or missed the email, but the info is and always has been there for anyone with a question. I understand wanting it changed, but it's not like it's a suddenly new thing.

One more wack at it....not everyone wants to cancel PS. So then there would be mad people it auto canceled.

I kept my PS membership for most of last year in RS with no regrets. The PS beers last year (and so far this year) have been pretty great. I think a fair number of people do this to get extra allocations of really good beers. Hard to fault Bruery for picking the default more advantageous to them. Especially when a fair number of people, like me, decide to stick it out once they realize they're committed.

The new part for me was upgrading to RS.

I've accepted responsibility, it just seems a logical move to auto-cancel on behalf of people who are upgrading and will essentially have access to the same beers that includes the RS discount. That's all.

I think it has to do with the increase in RS accounts and it seems like people bought less beer in 2016, as many beers trickled down to PS. So this is a way to get RS/HS beer into the hands of RS/HS. I like the new way and I didn't even buy any allocations since most were included and I'd rather wait for chronology 12 and 18.

I knew it auto-renewed from quarter to quarter but I wrongly assumed there would be a mechanism to remove the quarterly auto-renewal for upgrading members and I missed or glossed over any communications about the matter. It was the holiday, a lot was going on.

I've accepted that it is my bad but that doesn't mean the way it is handled (even if its always been this way) makes sense to me. That's all.

Fair enough. I still thinks it makes more sense to cancel the auto-renewal when someone upgrades to PS. Then they can re-establish the renewal once (and it wouldn't happen unless they upgraded to HS the following year).

But, ultimately, no pleasing everyone I guess (unless they offered refunds... haha).

I guess I was under the impression the RS members would get a whack at the PS beers with the RS discount applied through the extra allotments page. Perhaps I was given some poor information.
