Christ can we please stop debating this same topic everyone a TG stout is released? I'm more interested in hearing how it's tasting etc. people are going to sell beer regardless of the merits so accept it and move on.

Really? That's pretty lame. More work on your end for their mistake. I could see them being pretty careful with this stuff though since I'm sure people can sell those glasses for a decent amount down the road here.

You're absolutely right. To each their own. At the end of the day, I'm nobody to tell anybody what they should do with something they own. I choose to drink them, + as much as that's my personal choice, doesn't mean it has to be everybody else's.

ASSASSIN About 6oz pour into Assassin Teku

The smell was out of this world. From what I had been told prior to release from people who've had previous batches, this was going to be boozy. Thankfully, as I don't drink liquor (not a moral decision, I just don't like it), it wasn't. On the contrary. It was an absolute fudge bomb. Little by little I have been getting into barrel aged stout's, so I've been able to finally detect notes that are in bourbon like vanilla. That's what I got as far as the booze goes. This was a perfectly blended beer, which coated the entirety of my mouth, + with everything else I've had from TG, lingered for a bit after final taste. I can understand why they want us to drink these fresh, because this beer was already perfect.

KBBS 4oz pour into KBBS glass

I can't give this beer enough praise if I tried. Like Assassin, I had never had this beer before, so I couldn't compare to previous batches if I wanted to. Only thing I could ever compare it to, was Mornin' Delight B2, which I had both fresh out of a bottle, + about six months old from the keg at Wakestock last year. The second this beer was poured for me, I immediately smelled the maple syrup. I'm talking this glass was about 2 feet away from my face, + I still couldn't avoid the maple bomb. It was exactly what I remembered MD tasted like, but with even more syrup. Not sure if the barrel is the reason for this, but either way, it immediately became the greatest smelling beer I've ever had the pleasure of having. Like Assassin, the booze in this was nowhere to be found. I've never understood people who just smell glass for minutes on end, without at least trying their beer, but this was that time for me. I almost didn't even want to drink it because it smelled so good. When I finally took my first sip, I immediately knew that I will never have a better beer. This beer coats your mouth the same way Robitussin coats your entire mouth + doesn't leave for a while after you finish it. The way Mike blended the coffee, maple, + the barrel, Is an art form. As it warmed up, because you bet your ass I sipped on this for a bit, somehow the flavors + aroma filled up the room even more. There truly is no way to overate this beer. Everything you hear about it, is exactly what it is. Like I said before, I had never had any of the previous batches, but I was with some people who have had those beers, + all I kept hearing was "This is as great as batch one, if not better." I'm not sure what it would take to land another one of these bottles, but I'll tell you what, I'd consider any offer thrown my way.

    Cheers.

I think this is the closest to my opinion. The opportunity cost of cracking one of these beers is often ignored.

(Editors note: We need to stop meeting like this, Hwk-I-St8. My hatred of the Hawkeyes doesn't allow me to agree with a fan of theirs this often.)

I have never personally had KBBS, and if I had won the lottery, I would finally be able to try it, and I would try it no matter what. If I had to crack my own bottle, I would. However, if I was able to try someone some from another bottle, the first thing I would be doing is trying to shop my bottle around for other beers I haven't had before. Tickers gotta' tick.

KBBS, and other TG stouts, are going for ridiculous prices. You would be silly not to sell them. This year's Assassin is going for $300-$400. Previous years Assassins go for close to $1k. This years KBBS and SR-71 go for over $1k. Previous years KBBS go for over $2k. Niller Bean Assassin just closed for $5k. I personally know someone who sold their entire 2017 allotment for $2k. These number are outrageous. Name me one other release where a single allotment went for $2k less then a week after release. It simply does not happen.

From twitter sounds like assassin variants will be silent release maybe or just shared because of the super limited amount, so if someone has a bottle of vb assassin they might have sold it to early, it could reach 8k-10k before all said and done

I feel like a new batch of Niller Bean would lower the price, not raise it. Of the last batch, something like 40 made it out into the wild. I don't know how much more limited you can get than that.

Yes but it sounds like that or less will make it out into the wild this time. People who get them will drink them most likely which would increase the value. For 5k I could spend a week visiting tree house, hill farmstead and many other great breweries along the way.

Cycone fan? If so, take solace knowing that my daughter will be going there next fall...raised a Hawk fan by an Iowa Alum...already referring to ISU as "we". :grimacing:

She would no longer be a daughter of mine. What's next? Dating someone from Nebraska?

And anyways, I missed coming up to TG for the Assassin party but I tricked my girlfriend into going up in a few weeks for our anniversary. Maybe I can smooth talk Clark into being generous

I had assumed there would be more than the original batch, but I guess we won't know until they release them. I agree that if it is that limited, we will likely see prices that are at least similar to the current ones.

Yeah, I'm an ISU alumnus. I'm glad your daughter saw the light.

What were the super secret surprise bottles for sale at the bottle release btw? Can't find anyone commenting on that in this or the other TG thread. Thanks, just curious.

Obviously, people can do what they want with their bottles and nothing will stop the profiteers. Whether reselling occurs or not is one thing but that it has a negative impact to craft beer cannot be argued imo. Cheers to those who drank or will drink their TG stouts and to those who sell 'em, well you are a contributor to the problems of craft beer today so job well done I suppose.

Hopefully next batch of KBBS and Assassin it will be keg only. No scalping that way.

1pp helps in that regard, but given that some Minnesota folks with a public Untappd account were bragging about their growler of hand filled Term Oil on the first day of the first batch, well, it'd happen a few times.
