If you book far enough in advance it's under $200 round trip. I wouldn't consider it in the summer, but this time of year it might almost be worth it to save time and avoid the stress of white knuckling it over the mountain surrounded by people who don't know how to drive in the snow.

Hell, for mid-February RT Bham to Bend is in the $130-150 range. I love to fly, and I keep thinking about doing this, but never quite pull the trigger.

Great info in this thread, want to thank you all. Planned out my trip up there next week, Wednesday in Portland (beer focused), Thursday leaving to go north to Astoria then south to Tillamook and staying the night there, back to Portland the next day to spend the weekend with family.

Biggest targets in Portland for me are Great Notion, Deschutes, Hair of the Dog, and probably HUB. Planning to spend some time at Fort George and whatever else is close by in Astoria before going to Tillamook for De Garde.

Crossing my fingers for the weather forecast to stay the same, and looking forward to spending some time exploring Oregon.

Make sure to visit Buoy while in Astoria. I actually like the food there better than Fort George (though truthfully I love both places).

How's the Fantasia bottle supply? My parents are headed down to Portland this weekend and I was gonna ask them to grab me one if they're still around.

I would call ahead, but as of a few days ago there was still plenty at the brewery

My parents are into beer and were planning on stopping at Upright like they always, was just trying to make a list of a few things to have them pick up for me.

The draft list is particularly strong right now, with something like 8 different offerings available. Your parents picked a very good time to drop by the brewery tasting room. :-)

They're spending the weekend down there for her birthday with some friends. My parents love craft beer, but aren't as tuned into new releases as I am, so I normally do all their research and often tell them where to go. Too bad GN isn't doing crowlers of their new Guava IPA...

Exactly. Tell your parents to keep an eye out for me ... I'll be the drunk one with a substantial beer gut, brewery tee, and really long neck.

Thanks for all the valuable information guys. Will be staying 3 nights in order to hit as many breweries as possible. Praying for good weather. Know most of you are local but what is the best hotel that is most centrally located to the "can't miss" spots. The last night we are staying closer to the airport so any info would help! Thanks all!

I tend to recommend The Jupiter, but I realize it's not for everyone. Honestly being downtown is not that far off being "right in the middle of it." If you're in the downtown/centeral eastside area, where most a lot of the hotels are you're pretty close to being right in the middle of it.

I was about to book there. Care to give more details as to why it is not for everyone? I was going to get a room on the non-bar side etc.

My take: It's a little "hipster-y," (whatever that means), and the rooms around the Doug Fir patio can be a little noisy. But if you're booking on the "quiet side," you should be fine. You're probably not going to find a better deal that's so central to so many bars/breweries, and if you have a car, parking is way cheaper than if you stay downtown.

as someone who recently booked a place in PDX for an upcoming beercation, I found the Jupiter prices to be absurd compared to others ($300/nt weekend in March). I was considering it, but went with a VRBO cottage rental. Was also contemplating Inn at Northrup Station in the NW PDX area, looks to be in a pretty cool area too.

Wow. Yeah, I haven't stayed there in several years, but it was nowhere near $300/night back then. I agree that Airbnb or VRBO are generally better options than hotels these days, and plenty of them can be found in good, central locations for $100-150/night.

Depending on amenities required, take a look at prices near the airport. I only need a bed, hot water in the showers, and a reasonable level of security, so a basic motel works for me. You can take public transit to wherever ya wanna go in PDX. for example, you can get a clean, decent motel near SeaTac in the $60-70 range, and light rail takes ya right downtown for a couple of bucks. And PX has better public transport than Sea.
