A tweak such as this would definitely appease more customers. But it is more work for them. Seems like they are trying to keep things easy for themselves, rather than consider the needs of most customers, which is their prerogative.

Just because they aren't considering your needs in particular doesn't mean they aren't considering the needs of their customer base as a whole.

I don't call it improvement, because my dozen estimate was pretty low. The haze chasers will basically

The potential is that they would have more traffic through multiple days. They already do. With the potential of 1-2 can releases spread through the weekday/weekend, that's two out of five days that is covered. Fridays are usually new growler fill days, so they already have 3 out of five days fairly busy that don't need improvements and that your system will actually take away. Not only that, but adding a new system of having to pick up online orders does not guarantee that those who are going in to pick them up will buy anything more regardless. All it does is add a $20 deposit that they will have to monitor and deal with.

As well as open it up for far more abuse by folks with mules geared up for an online sale.

Bottom line, your suggestion is not very helpful for their business.

Well I guess we'll wait and see what solution they've come up with that OTB alluded to. Apparently it will address 90% of the complaints in this thread.

Out of curiosity, are you still regularly attending can releases? I've stopped doing so, and you might have a better idea of how busy they are throughout the day. For the few I've been to, there seemed to be a steep drop off in the hours after selling out.

They will never do anything that will please everyone. They've made a lot of changes and improvements. It's gotten to the point where if you show up at or before opening you are most likely to get cans. Total wait time is about an hour from when you get in line, which is not ideal but it's pretty good considering the demand for these beers and how little they make.

I do like the idea of doing an online sale once a month. Have a one day pick up window, once a month and give more people the opportunity to buy it online. Of course, even with this you will still have people complaining plus all the logistical issues involved. But at least it's only once a month instead of 1-2 times a week.

Please provide links or screenshots to said $100 4pack postings... I'm sorry, but I refuse to believe people are buying $100 4packs

Again, seems like A LOT of exaggeration in this thread

Sad to say it's not a complete exaggeration. If you look at the Sold items on MBC, some have sold for $100 a 4-pack - namely Biggiex3 most recently. The usual going rate seems to be $50-$60 a 4-pack with the more limited stuff selling at about $20 a can.

Definitely not a supporter of the practice but I guess some don't mind paying that much - still personally think it's ridiculous but to each his own.

Its probably the same 300-320 people thare actually buying there beer. Then there are the people that acquire the beer in trades so i am not confident many people have had their beer

This third party reselling of beer on these sites is seriously despicable. Who would be okay with doing that?

I do not blame the people selling it at that price, I blame the people paying it. Hell, I would sell 4-packs of Monkish beer for $80, if I actually had some, and then I would call you a moron for paying that price.

Made it to the release this past weekend, which was my first since their original canning, First Things First. Though I have had the privilege of watching them sell the last cans to the guy in front of me on a random release day I happened to show up on.

To me, it seems Monkish has made legitimate strides to improve the experience, especially relative to most other breweries that seem to still be figuring out the whole in person release protocol...

I got there about an hour and a half early. I'd say about 150 people in line already? It looked like at least the first 100 had already been given wristbands, which was nice because imo, the diehards towards the front of these lines are usually the ones who have "friends" that tend to show up later. But the key is that the wristbands are numbered, and the employees selling the beer actually checked numbers on the wristbands when it was your turn to pick up your allotment. I didn't see any cutting the entire time I was there, and that's something I can't say for several (most?) of the other canned juice releases I've attended recently.

And sure, there was the occasional skunky tinge to the air, but nobody was blatantly smoking herb in line anywhere near where I was standing. And on top of that, I didn't see a single open container other than water bottles the entire time I was there. Nor did I see any significant amount of trash left behind when I left. Overall, it was actually a pretty pleasant way to spend two hours I'd probably have spent in bed anyway. I was outside, the vibe was mellow, I had a wristband and didn't have to stress, and I got to meet and talk to other people who are as foolishly obsessed with beer as I am.

I think the following LA-appropriate expression can be applied to all this line craziness - "You are not IN traffic. You ARE traffic." We're mad that all these people are in line to get beers, but if they were not, wouldn't it just be us instead buying the beers? At what point is a line officially "too long"? Which one of us represents the final person that should be allowed an allotment, and after that it's just a bunch of undeserving "traders"? The only distinction between someone deserving a beer any more or less than I do would seem to me to be the effort they put into achieving it. It sucks, but I struggle with demonizing a system that I know I contribute to.

I look forward to a year from now, when all the online Monkish can releases are selling out in fractions of a second and the next great ground swell of frustration is calling for Monkish to enact a lottery system because all the bots and scripts are allowing the Beer Bros to game the system.

This is an internet forum. We can blame the idiot who pays it, the douchebag selling it, and the President while we're at it. There's plenty of blame to go around.
