Black IPA? Makes me wonder if you've ever had a black IPA.

You should make your way out to the share one time. It is a great time!

I like SC. Never been to the release and rarely get any bottles, but always have a few on draft every year (every place in town has it on around Valentines Day usually). Never got a black IPA taste from it though, which is good because black IPA's are gross.

Calling it a black ipa is absurd. It's properly rated at a 91. Foothills provides a flawless release party around it annually. It cost $15, which isn't outrageous for a bomber of a decent stout. It stays on draft at the brew pub and throughout NC for months. I don't get why a Beer Advocate would bash it.

The parties are always fun and ones to where I truly found some good people. I don't think its an over-hyped beer it just stands as something more in NC. Foothills has reached a point (no bottle limit) where lots of consumers have had it. One thing i would love to see are some variants. This is their most well known beer......change it up a little. My .02.

If you haven't been to a release, i recommend it. Hit one of the parties or be a trooper and hit both. Cheers!

Yeah there is that one guy on this site that swears by it. Maybe I don't drink black IPA enough. :grinning:

If any of y'all live near Hillsborough. The Wooden Nickle will have Sexual Chocolate on tap the entire month.

Other than Dead and Berried? Which, okay, granted, is a variant of BASC not SC.

    Regardless, variants would be cool.

Why the hate for my favorite Cold Mountain. I love this beer. This thread was perfectly fine on talking Sexual Chocolate. >mutters<:stuck_out_tongue:

This was my first beer release several years ago and it was a great experience, particularly the in line share. While the beer is way more accessible these days, I would still recommend checking it out for anyone that has never been. Its still a quality beer but other breweries have closed the gap in the imperial stout genre.

Cold Mountain is the most over-hyped thing in NC, hands down. It's a slightly spiced thin mess of a beer, IMO. I've never understood the fascination with it.

I think Sexual Chocolate is a good beer, but I certainly don't seek it out. I've had my share. I do agree, too, that it's too thin. The BA version is much better, but doesn't hold a candle to the BA stouts coming out of Olde Hickory.

All that being said - the shares and people are typically great.

True dat - very generous shares and great people. I've tried many whales for the first time at BA Sexy releases.

Oh, I get it. I feel the same way about IPA's, most over hyped liquid garbage on the planet. However, I understand that is it just my view and not shared by many in Asheville as well.

Good thing they make both so we all have something to drink  I usually get one point of Cold Mountain a year, remember why I'm not a fan, and that's it for the year.

Nope. Don't think any made it to Hickory and I didn't go over to Asheville when it was around. Wanted to try it but just didn't line up.
